plant watch day 5:

ALERT THE BABS ARE BACK IN TOWN, THE BABS ARE BACK IN TOWN

We have plant babies!!!!!!!!

The thyme was the first I noticed and the only thing up of that flat but I suspect one or two of the other herbs will be up shortly. The big surprise for me was the true potato seeds. They're up! Not all of them, but I thought they were going to take longer, more like tomatoes. Expert on the topic said 7-10 days. WOoo!



Only non blurry pictures are of the TPS, so that's what you get here. But the thyme babies are very cute.

I got nothin' from the little packet of seeds I tried to start on my windowsill at home. But hopefully the ones I started at the farm will do better.

I did the high quality germination chamber of putting them in a trash bag and misting it with water. It creates a really moist environment that is great for germination. You could try something similar! Just make it very damp and the soil is very damp!

Those babies are hanging out, waiting for more water.

I planted mine in a takeout container with a loose-fitting lid that I frequently misted under anyway. The soil has turned slightly green in a few places where it's gone mossy from being constantly wet. It was a tiny sample packet of seeds, though, and they were celery, and Aaron says celery has a crap germination rate so he's astonished they'd bother. It was kind of dumb, but I didn't want to just throw them out. But I'm pretty sure they're actually no good, and not that I just let them get too dry, so I don't feel too bad just chucking them. It's been three weeks.
Any other seedlings I need I'll just get from the farm.
