December crafting goals
  • finish the color spin I've got and get back to working on the alpaca. spin some other stuff - finished the color spin, spun another 14 oz of yarn and finished a bobbin of the alpaca, plyed some things too
  • finish knitting the hat - finished!
  • crochet a dice bag for my sister - crocheted two!
  • sew the purse for my mom - did it! she loves it!
  • work on coat mockup - got it all cut out, interfacing attached, just about started piecing it
  • weave rug - worked on it!
  • process fleece - worked on it!
  • Other - sewed a bag for my SIL, mostly wrote the waistcoat post, wove three tablet woven bands, two for the bags. Prototyped my Dad's gift of ratchet strap bags and made gift bags out of fabric for all the gifts
Color spin! It was 2 ounces each of six color of roving from Green Goat Ranch in their A Midwinter's Nights Dream colorways, which are grey overdyed to make the colors a bit muted which I loved. I don't know what I'm doing with it yet, I think some kind of weaving project, but I didn't spin it for weaving as a single, so I'd need to ply it if it was to be used as warp and I don't really have a ton of it, so I'd need to add some other yarn which I don't have. So it's taking up bobbin space right now and I need to figure something out.

Six colors of roving, one already spun on the wheel, the rest still in braids. The colors are deep red, light red, orange, green, blue, purple.
this is a ton of stuff and pictures )
Whew, that was a lot.

April Goals (and May, and June)
  • Spin something and ply the Montadale - I spun 8 oz of purple mystery wool and plyed 4 oz of purple with the montadale and then plyed the other 4 oz together. I also spun 4 oz North Ronaldsey roving which is going to be some sort of weaving thing combined with a fleece I have for rugs, just trying to decide if it should be 2 ply as warp or singles as weft. Also starting spinning through a bunch of samplers of cellulose fiber 25g each and writing some notes about them. I spun mint, ingeo corn, banana and soybean top so far. They're similar but not all the same. Also spinning a pound of roving on my CPW, which I'm done with 8oz and onto the next braid.
  • Work on tablet weaving - worked on it! almost done
  • Get Romney on the loom - got it on! need to make a whole post about it, but also got it mostly woven and off
  • Knit sweater - almost done! I have a sleeve cuff left to knit. It's now a 3/4 sleeve very light sweater
  • Process alpaca fleece (I want to try and get this done quickly to start another fleece for an event but we'll see) - I ended up pulling the other fleece out just for the event, prepping and spinning about 4oz on my CPW at the event which was very fun. I'm debating whether to switch to carding the alpaca fleece instead since I'm not enjoying combing it. I want it to be 2 ply warp for a blanket so combing would be better. Maybe I can card it into sheets and spin from those
  • Crochet mittens - done!
  • Other (not specified at the time) - mended a pair of pants with [personal profile] dragonlady7 's guidance, wound new warp to go on the loom, garden got in the ground and I have a lot of happy dye plants
Life sure happened and I didn't write these posts. I was busy.

Spinning!

This is the Montadale (white) and mystery wool (purple) plyed up. I'll need to skein and wash. No plans for these but it's more rustic, so good for mittens and things.

Two bobbins side by side, full of yarn. The teal bobbin has solid purple yarn and the purple bobbin has barberpole white and purple yarn.

July Goals (I wish I had time/energy for Tour de Fleece but I don't usually so I'm not going to push it)
  • spinning - work on Pansy Pandemonium. I doubt I'll finish the 10oz in July but that's okay. maybe spin some more samplers on the eel wheel
  • knitting - finish the sweater and get B to take actual nice photos of me wearing it
  • finish the tablet weaving
  • warp and weave the wool singles cloth
  • process fleece - now that I typed that all up above, I think I'm going to switch to carding the alpaca and comb a sheep fleece
  • dye something????
  • wash a fleece

I did so much??? For some reason, November felt wildly busy.

November Goals
  • Spin grey Romney fleece - 4 out of 6 bobbins done and the blobs in the box are getting quite low
  • Finish tablet weaving project? - DONE WOW. turns out when you work on something, it is easier to get it done
  • knit sweater - still working on it, I have a crop top sweater now
  • process fleece - I think I worked on this once
  • finish 4oz test comb for timing - done and did a second one of Teeswater
  • start a crochet project - hat and scarf for gifts? - did a crochet hat and a knit hat, no pictures because they aren't 100% done. I need to put a lining in the crochet hat
Other things: big loom weaving!
Pictures!

Grey Romney! I think I've finally earmarked this fleece for a big snuggly cardigan that I can wear over other layers. I will either do a 3 ply or 4 ply depending on what weight I want. Two more bobbins to go since this is a little over 20 oz, with another 10oz to spin. I shouldn't need extra yarn but if I do, I have 10 oz of carded combing waste from the same fleece.

Four storage bobbins are sitting on a slate floor, they are filled with variable light grey singles yarn

  • Ball navajo churro yarn for weaving next - to do over holiday break at my parents

I started with two braids (8oz total) from Llady Llama Fiber Co, colorway was Clockwork on their Targhee base. I went looking for the pictures of the braids and I took those March 22nd. I pulled apart the braids, spun them as a gradient and made a 2 ply fingering weight yarn. I crocheted it using the pattern of Blurred Lines by Deanne Ramsey, completely ignoring the colorwork and some of the minor details. I liked the shaping and neckline (why so many wide neck sweaters pattern writers?).

It was fun!

I took Llady Llama's Targhee base dyed in Manta (white to dark blue), 8 ounces of it in two braids.

A white to blue braid of fiber rests next to a bobbin of spun fiber on a spinning wheel.

This is from the past month or so, I haven't been posting about projects because I've been busy busy.

So this scarf was the first major project I started on, technically back in September. I bought the roving at the sheep and wool festival because it reminded me of persona 5, which is one of Jade's favorite video games. I bought it, spun it on drop spindle and then crocheted a scarf for her.

A scarf that changes color from grey to black to maroon to deep red and back.
At one point, I restarted making the whole scarf because I originally started with a single crochet but it made it very stuff so a third of the way through, I pulled it all out and did it with a half double crochet and it turned out very well.

this is a lot of photos )

All in all, a lot of fiber stuffs!

I made a whole bobbin of yarn on my spinning wheel. I finally got it off and here's a picture. There's some definite variation but that roving is actually kinda hard to work with for some reason. I can't figure it out but it's my test roving for everything. If I learn to spin on it, then moving to other types is easier. I have no idea what it is, I constantly lose what things are. I counted out the turns on the niddy noddy and then calculated it out, and it may or may not be about 270 yards, which is a good amount. I'm not plying anything because that's a pain in the butt and I don't want to.

White yarn, very thing all aligned with a sharpie laid over top to give a size perspective.

 finally finished another blanket

it had been living in my bed because I'd been working on it last evenings when I would go to bed early but not sleep. I made it specifically to use up all the super bulky yarn I had, which I did use them all up. Now I just need to keep working on all the other yarn lol

but it's super heavy and soft and it's larger than the original plan, which was another lap blanket. It's so heavy that it isn't very useful as a lap blanket so I'm just going to enjoy using it more like a weighted blanket.

A bulky blanket of many different colors is draped over a computer and other blankets.
