This year's women's hockey calendar is live!

Here is the link.

I am only using TeamUp this year for the calendar because I don't have the ability to keep up with two calendars. I'm still working on adding the Naisten Liiga and Russian WHL games into the but most are entered through November. The first PWHPA games were added since they are playing Friday and Saturday. The entire SDHL season has been entered and if you are outside of Sweden, they are offering a whole season streaming package that is around $115 USD.

As of right now, the NWHL season is starting in January 2021, the AWIHL season is cancelled. Most IIHF games are still on for this season and I will add those dates soon.

Some information isn't available yet but links to where to watch are on the lower left hand side of the page. You can change which leagues you want to view by clicking the bars on the left side to de-select leagues. If you click the eye, you will select only that league.

The calendar should auto change times to your timezone - if not, go to upper right hand corner, click the three bars for a menu. Click the time zone bar, it will pop up a box. Check the "show all timezones" box and then select the time zone from the drop down menu and hit save.

I update this based on schedules posted on websites and social media early in the season, so if things change mid-season I might not catch it. This has happened before. Time zones also might be wonky because daylight savings time makes stuff weird.

If you want to move things from this calendar to your own, you can click an event and hit share. I used to maintain a google calendar, but I am no longer doing this because maintaining two calendars was difficult.

If you have any questions, comments, etc, feel free to email me at fanwoho@gmail.com

This is a crosspost from the pillowfort Women's Hockey community that I made.

The PWHPA has annouced their Dream Gap Tour, with details at this link here.  They are having weekend game showcases between teams. Announced locations are Toronto, Hudson, NH, and Chicago. They are also having an exhibition game against Boston College and one against San Jose Sharks Alumni. I think in one of the news articles, they mentioned more happening later, with Buffalo as a potential location. All the games currently on the schedule are played in the next two months.

The Toronto leg of the tour just released tickets and information here, playing the weekend of Sept 21-22. They are playing four games between four teams over the weekend and they have some big sponsors including Budweiser Canada, who are sponsoring the streaming, which will be on their website. One cool thing is that you can buy virtual tickets and that money will go to kids who might not be able to go to a game.

NWHL announced this morning that they are partnering with Twitch to stream all of their games for three years, including this season. It will include the Isobel Cup Final and any other special games like the All-Star Game. It doesn't look like pre-season games are included since they specified all regular season games will be streamed. While you get perks and things if you make a Twitch account, you don't need an account to watch games.

This is slightly older (lol 2 weeks old) news, the Swedish national team is on strike until they are compensated fairly. The have had a lot of issues with their federation in the past few years and it all has come to a head. They have already missed the Euro Hockey Tour, and Sweden is hosting the 4 Nations Cup in November, so there is international embarrassment on the line for the federation if they can't have a team play. The players are unionized, which should greatly help their cause.

I'm also going to re-post the link to the calendar I made again, for when games are being played. The PWHPA, NWHL, IIHF and SDHL are currently listed on there. It is pretty USA/Canada centric but if you think I should add any other leagues, let me know (with a focus on leagues that stream games, I may still add the AWIHL, Finland's league and Russia's league). I'm working on ways to have a single shareable calendar that you can hide the leagues you don't want to see schedules for, but that will probably be for next season or later this year (I did find a good candidate! still in progress.). I'm also only able to do some tasks on a computer, and currently the internet is out at my house so I'm doing my best to update it when I get computer access and as news comes up.

Got up and immediately got extremely tired so no baking.

I'm cross posting this from the woho community on pillowfort where I posted it

Hi everyone!

It's been quiet on on the community, despite the chaos of this current off season. I put together this calendar, similar to one I did around the spring of last year so I can keep track of woho games currently happening.

Leagues/orgs currently on the calendar: NWHL, SDHL, IIHF,  and some USA/CAN games coming up.

When we find out more from the PWHPA on exhibition games they may be putting on, I will get them on the calendar. Once we get closer to major tournaments and those schedules are released, I'll add those on as well.

I will probably also put the AWIHL games on there. My aim is to have leagues that stream their games online posted as well as special events happening. I'm not sure yet if I will be posting Liiga Naiset (Finland's league) or the ZhHL/WHL (Russia's league) games on here, mainly because I don't know if they will be streaming any games and I'm having a lot of difficulty finding schedules.

Okay, some searching tells me that the WHL streams their games on their youtube page and I have found a schedule. One reason I may add them is that the Kunlun Vanke Rays are now playing in their league this year. Let me know if you think I should add them.

Other than that, get ready because hockey season is coming!

The Aurora Games is "a first of its kind sports and entertainment festival featuring world class competition in women’s tennis, gymnastics, basketball, figure skating, ice hockey and beach volleyball. All-star teams made up of athletes who have accounted for over 100 Olympic, World and National championships from The Americas vs The World, will be led by honorary captains Jackie Joyner Kersee and Nadia Comaneci as they compete for the Babe Didrikson Zaharias Trophy."

And it's in Albany!!!!

They've got an ice hockey event! In August! So exciting! Olympians will be there! Like, it looks super fucking awesome!

They've also got two things the Wed and Thurs before the hockey game that are meet and greets and practices up in Glens Falls, which is fucking awesome. So. I know what I'm doing in August. I might take vacation days. Wow.

The Board of Directors of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) has made the decision to discontinue operations effective May 1, 2019. Unfortunately, while the on-ice hockey is exceptional, the business model has proven to be economically unsustainable.

Holy shit.

I love her and so does everyone else right now.

NCAA Fantasy Hockey Week 22:

The Eagle has Selanded: Top seed Cornell and eighth seed RPI played not just the most memorable series of the weekend, but one of the most memorable series of the season. On Friday, after Cornell had put more than twenty shots on net without scoring, RPI went 1-0 up on its second shot of the game. Fifteen Cornell shots later, and two RPI shots later, Cornell finally leveled it at 1-1, and nearly sixteen minutes into overtime Cornell took it 2-1. Lovisa Selander (RPI, $59, 59 SP, 8.3 WP, 1 pick) made 63 saves and RPI took seven shots in total. Saturday was even more epic as RPI massively stepped up their offense, registering ten total shots on goal, and with a goal early in the first period and an empty-netter in the dying minutes took the game 2-0. Blake Orosz (RPI, $24.40, 24.4 SP, 4 WP, 0 picks) scored all three goals across the two games, which counts as a hat trick if you’re RPI. Sadly for fans of Cinderella stories, Cornell came to play in the decider and took it 6-1 to progress to the semi-finals. Selander’s save percentage across the series was an amazing .954. Over to Title IX Hockey for some more great stats:

Title (MMX)IX Hockey@TitleIXHockey

The 8 seed in the ECAC tournament prior to today had never won a game, and had taken the 1 seed to OT just 5 times for a total of 6 OTs.  RPI is 4 of those times and 5 of those OTs.

Selander’s NCAA career is over, but college hockey fans will remember her for a long time. She had already broken Brianne McLaughlin’s official NCAA save record a few weeks back; in the game that RPI won, she beat Nicole Hensley’s 4,094, which isn’t the official record because in Hensley’s freshman year Lindenwood was still transitioning to D1. She ends with 4,153 saves, an average of over a thousand saves a season (for a comparison, the average saves made this season by goalies that play 80% or more of minutes is 822, so Selander was about 25% more tested than the average goalie) and now takes her talents to the Boston Pride, who honestly should consider starting both her and Katie Burt and only playing four skaters.

SB Nation's Women's College Hockey Division 1 Poll:

5. Cornell (16-3-6), 83 — Last poll: 5

• Last week: W 2-1 v Rennselaer (3/1), L 0-2 v Rennselaer (3/2), W 6-1 v Rennselaer (3/3)

• This week: v Princeton (3/9), ECAC Championship (3/10)

One might say the Big Red threw away their shot(s) as they took a staggering 174 shots over three games scoring a grand total of 8, six of which came in the third game. They are glad to never see Lovisa Selander again as they now play Princeton who we assume will not be allowed to build a brick wall at their goal mouth this weekend.

Lovisa Selander is the best goalie you haven't heard of

A native of Sollentuna, Sweden, she broke Brianne McLaughlin’s 3,809-save record for most career saves in Division 1 (and as of yesterday, with a 49-save shutout against Cornell, has beaten Nicole Hensley’s 4,094, which isn’t the official record because in Hensley’s freshman year Lindenwood was still transitioning to D1). With the quarter final decider today, she's bound to add to her current 4098 saves and extend her lead at the top of the record books.

[...]

If you want one stat that sums up her contribution to the team, think about this. RPI have scored 49 goals total this season, which is less than all but three D1 programs. Yet their win percentage is 0.484, good for halfway down the rankings. Their ratio of win percentage to goals scored per game is 36%; the second team in the country on that stat, Cornell, is on 24%. Every goal scored by RPI gives them a 50% better chance of winning the game than any goal scored by anyone else. That’s how good Selander is.

Both the NWHL and CWHL have their playoffs this weekend. I think the NCAA still has theirs going on but RPI was booted so I'm no longer interested for now. All game times are in Eastern time unless otherwise specified.

NWHL: All the games are streamed on twitter, go to the nwhl twitter page at puck drop time and they post it. They play single elimination games to move on. The Isobel Cup Final will be either March 16 or 17 at the top seeded team's home rink.

CTW @ MET - Thursday, 3/7/19 at 7pm at the Barnabas Health Hockey House, Newark, NJ. The Riveters beat Buffalo in a shootout on Sunday, which is quite the upset. It gave them the #4 spot and got them home ice advantage in the play-in game of #5 vs #4. Whoever wins this game will fly to Minnesota on Sunday.

BOS @ BUF - Saturday, 3/9/19 at 7:30pm at the Harbor Center, Buffalo, NY. Boston lost their game against the Whitecaps on Saturday, putting them in the third place spot. They will travel to Buffalo. Whoever wins this game will be in the Isobel Cup Final.

(Update!) Riveters @ MIN - Sunday, 3/10/19 at 1:30central/2:30eastern at TRIA Rink, Saint Paul, MN. Whoever wins the CTWvMET game will play this game against the #1 Whitecaps, who won the regular season. Whoever wins this game will be in the Isobel Cup Final

Here is a very helpful bracket from the website:

CWHL: They play best of three to get to the Clarkson Cup Final, which is a single elimination game. It will be Sunday, March 24th at 12PM EST in Toronto, ON. This game will be streamed.

MAR @ MTL - Friday, March 8 at 7:30PM at Place Bell in Montreal (stream here), QC, Saturday, March 9 at 6:00PM at Complexe sportif Bell in Montreal, QC (Stream here), Sunday, March 10 at 1:30 at Complexe sportif Bell in Montreal, QC (stream here). This is the #3 v #2 game. The winner of this series will advance to the Clarkson Cup Final.

TOR @ CGY - All games played at Winsport Arena A in Calgary, AB. Friday, March 8 at 8:00PM Central/10:00PM Eastern (stream here), March 9 at 6:45PM Central/8:45PM Eastern (stream here), March 10 at 12:00PM Central/2PM Eastern (stream here). This is the #4 v #1 game. The winner of this series will advance to the Clarkson Cup Final.

Thanks to the Victory Press for the very helpful article on the CWHL playoffs here. They do great reporting on women's hockey.
