An actual writeup of my weekend

Saturday I pruned raspberries. I hadn't actually done it before, so Mom came out and showed me how and then ended up working with me for part of the morning before she had to go bottle maple syrup. In total we got about 300 row feet done by the end of the day, which was good. I finished out about half of it by myself. I was so sore at the end of the day. My thighs hurt from kneeling and my hand hurt from the clippers because even though they were sharp, I was clearing a lot of dead wood and nine hours of anything will hurt if you aren't used to it.
Then yesterday I got about 100 feet done in the morning on a difficult variety so that was cool. I switched to the larger pruners because they didn't put the same pressure on my palm that the hand pruners did. My hand had swelled up a little along the base of my thumb where the hand pruners sat so I switched and it was better. Now my triceps are sore from the larger pruners (they're like half size lopers? they're amazing and also 100 dollars)
I sat around for a couple of hours, heard the CWHL folded and then drove back. I briefly thought about trying to get back in time for ice skating here but also: sore. I'm not sure when that is going to happen.
On saturday I went and checked out my field to see if it was fit. It was! So I'm heading back down next weekend to get some things planted.
It's a little early but they say go as early as you can in spring with these crops. I'm a little concerned about potential rain on Friday but given how dry the ground is, it might be fine. We shall see.
I'm going to rototill and plant in my spring crops using the little hand push seeder I have. I still need to finalize planting plans and get some starts in pots, so I'll be busy this week.
My current crops are looking okay. Some have not survived the winter, which stinks. All the peas are dead and some of the barley and wheat. The rye looks happy.
Garlic is happy. Next year I'm going to straw mulch them, I don't like the process of putting the plastic down much and I'll have to pull it out in July.

Rye

Wheat

Barley

There's a bunch that just aren't there, so I'll throw down some cover crop next weekend if I remember.
My cover crops look decent. The mix is mostly grasses at this point, which is fine by me, I'll probably mow it or something during the summer. The rye/vetch is coming back well and I'll till that in April (holy shit it is april), in a few weeks then. Okay. Wow, the passage of time was just very sudden. The oats/peas did what it was supposed to and died except the peas are partially not dead, but will be easy to till in.
I know spring is here but uhhh also, spring is here???????
