I'm trying to not be desperately irrationally angry about things but my mom just used my baking strainer for her farro because she thought it was hers and didn't apologize about it. I used it the other day when I was baking, and my mom will just move all my stuff out of the dish drainer and for some reason she thought it was hers and now she's used it and I'm really angry about it. I ONLY use it for baking, I have a separate, sturdier one for draining pasta and stuff. And now it's been used for heavier grains and also cross contaminated with wheat and I'm really not okay with this. she didn't know. but also she didn't question why it was in the dish drainer with all of my baking supplies and she hadn't used it in days and just

(I know it was mine because the strainer is coming apart in a specific spot)

I washed it once but I'm going to wash it again because I can't even deal with how much wheat there could be in all the little crevices. maybe I should just buy a new one. but I had trouble finding one with a good weave which is why I haven't gotten a new one before this

It's by no means unreasonable to be angry about obliviousness to boundaries. (I mean, your mom has failed to internalise you've got a dietary constraint about gluten which requires caring about surface contamination, and that's worrying in and of itself.)

I do hope you can get your living arrangements fully separated soon-like.

She has grasped it, but in a really annoying way. Last week, she asked if I was going to the family party at my aunt's, then started listing all of the food that would be at said party. When I asked her why she was telling me this, she said she was SO WORRIED that I wouldn't have anything to eat. And I'm sure she was genuinely worried about it, she's very anxious. But I know everyone else's tastes and there wasn't a chance there wouldn't be something I could eat and also my aunt's house is 400 feet from our house, I could simply walk home and grab something. There was plenty of food I could eat.

So for this to happen. Arg. It's obviously a mixed kitchen, I've always made food in mixed kitchens, but my baking supplies only get used for my baking, even when I occasionally make things I can't eat, I use other people's baking bowls and things. I just need to make it until christmas. I can do it.

Thank you for that link! I will measure my current one and see if it is close. I like mine a lot because of it's fine mesh and the specific size it is.

I can't believe I'm finally living with crappy roommates and they're my parents. I was blessed with so many good roommates who respected my things and also how weird I got about things. Someday they will move out. someday.

This just hit one of my pain points. I’m not a jealous person, but I am a territorial one. Don’t use my stuff without asking. Just don’t. Particularly if that usage is going to contaminate it. Seriously!

I don't really want to be angry about it, there's nothing I can do about it now. I'm buying a new one. I'm going to be more careful about putting away my baking supplies where she won't touch them. I'm extremely specific about my baking supplies, they are precious, all get stacked in specific ways, only get used for my baking. Even when I make stuff that I can't eat, I used other people's bowls and stuff. I know I'm really really particular about this stuff and I've been trying to let it go, but I'm so frustrated. I'm also really territorial and I hadn't realized how good all of my previous roommates were about it until I had to live with bad roommates (my ding dang parents). I feel vaguely like a cat or a dragon, hissing that someone touched! my! thing!

thanks for the sympathy! I'm going to buy a new one because I can't even.
