I spent most of the weekend not doing much, just the bare minimum of house work. I've been very tired generally, I think due to the whole conference thing plus working plus having to run and pick things up on Friday. Plus disturbed sleep. Mara woke me up three times last night, twice to get up and once she was just licking her bed for no reason.

Mara has another pain shot on thursday afternoon, hopefully it helps her. I'm not super hopeful to be honest, it only helped a little last time. If it doesn't really help, I'm going to have a quality of life conversation with the vet because Mara has only managed to lay down on her own twice in the past week. She's still relatively cheerful but she seems a little confused, will spend some time just turning in circles either on her bed or in the middle of my room. Her eyesight is definitely going, my housemate has started holding still sometimes and Mara can't find her.

Just got word that of course someone on our team at the conference tested positive for covid. Quelle surprise. I was the only one masked the whole time, some of the coworkers masked between sessions when everyone was doing signups and they were at the tables. This is the exact same thing that happened last year. Shrugs. I tested negative just now.

Saturday I puttered a little bit, did a bunch of spinning and some fiber preparation, it was nice. Did work on sidejob stuff since I had about 12 requests come in that week all at once. Sigh. Forgot about bakeoff watching with J, so did that too after some scramble to reheat dinner.

I had planned to bake something on sunday, but just didn't feel like it, so I didn't. I probably will do something this week, I've got fig newtons on the brain and I have dried figs and everything I need, so that will happen at some point. Other plan is to try some savory baking, which I'm not amazing at but I dug through one of my recipe books and I've got some ideas. So instead I spent the morning doing more sidejob stuff, then spent all afternoon laying in bed reading. It was awesome.

The weather is supposed to be very nice the next two days so I've got a few small outdoor projects to work on.

Yay for weekend relaxing with a book.

I love reading about your baking adventures. I keep thinking about planting some fig trees. I just need a spot that doesn’t back onto the goat yard.

Wish I could send you one of the figs that are potted up in my greenhouse - but I don't think the trip from California would make them very happy.

I’m ever the optimist! I’m always happy to support folks’ hobbies with some cheerfulness and $. So if you want to sell/ship a fig out to Virginia and your fig is cold hardy for zone 7A, we can try it… Drop me a note to giant cricket farm at gmail dot com.

Hurrah for continuous masking like a sensible person.

Hope the baking goes well and there's some better rest in the offing.
