Posting through it because I don't know what else to do

Last night around 11:30, I woke up to a weird noise and realized it was Mara. She was laying on her smaller comfy bed, slightly curled up with her head down on the bed and panting with her head down. It sounded so weird and I've never seen her do that before. I got up, gave her one of the new pain pills then got her on her feet to drink water. I couldn't really tell if it's overheating or pain. She was panting afterwards but not as badly. I ended up holding an ice pack to her belly for a bit and eventually she just put her head down and went to sleep. Presumably she was feeling better. I stayed up for an hour and a half to make sure she really was okay and sleeping fine, she got up once or twice and I popped her butt up so she could move to a better spot.

This morning when we got up, she was a little stiff but walked it off. I had asked [personal profile] dragonlady7 to bring her car over so I could get Mara into a smaller vehicle to go to the park. I almost cancelled that plan, but since Mara was looking okay this morning, we went to the park and Mara had a lovely time, we wandered around and she smelled things, seemed to be just fine. Getting her out of the car (or truck) is that hardest part. She's snoozling now and seems comfy. I'm thinking about giving her the pain pills at night, when she seems to have the most issues getting comfortable. The pain pills really seem to be helping but I was really upset last night.

Sympathy and commiserations.

This sort of thing is tough to deal with in humans, who can at least usually talk. Pets are hard mode.

Pain pills at night, and everything else you did, seems like laudable empiricism. Don't think you could do better than you are.
