 I am still getting informed that my phone is still inadequate so I'm going to the verizon store in a few minutes and making this someone else's problem

ETA: Ran to the store and now I have a new SIM card, which I suspect was the entire problem THE ENTIRE TIME

So I'm continuing my plan to wait until after all this has blown over and go back to using my other phone

That sounds like it might be progress?

Generally speaking, if your phone is failing in a completely inexplicable way, it's the SIM card. Hardware failures are almost always That One Thing or obvious ("goodnes, but my phone is hot...")

Glad there's a prospect of getting back to your preferred phone!

Glad it's just the SIM card and you could get a replacement out of them!

(I remember when 2G was the hot new thing. I am going to feel strange about this for a minute. :)
