We are moving Jade down to the city....on Wednesday

She has to be there for something work related on Thursday and has just decided that's happening. So she's packing like a fiend right now, I am not. I will be driving a load of her stuff down in the truck, the bigger items and she's going to take her car down with the rest. I did ask her to come up a day in the next month and help move some of the larger items around, mostly the couches but also one load of my stuff over to the storage unit. I also figure I'll dig out things that she misses in her frantic packing that I don't want and she does that she can pick up. This feels like a pretty reasonable request giving I'm driving her stuff down.

After driving up here on Saturday morning (I left nice and early), I relaxed the rest of the day because I was really tired from the midnight dog freakout over the fireworks. I even napped! It was nice.

I took a load of stuff to the storage unit yesterday. I had slipped my sneakers on as I was carrying stuff down the stairs and started loading them into my truck, which was backed at the edge of the parking lot, with the tailgate over the grass (mud). I thought about taking the time to put my boots on, but figured I'd be fine. I'd done it a bunch before.

Well, I had put a shelf into the back of the truck and then pushed the bottom of it to move it up and just snapped it in half. Cheap shelf, no big deal. I hopped up and dropped it out of the truck. Moved a few more things around and jumped down from the tailgate of the truck and my left foot hit a weird patch of mud, gave out and I wiped out in the mud.

Ugh. Moral there is to wear the boots with the supportive ankles because my ankles give out a lot and I should know better. I've rolled ankles on flat sidewalk, don't know why I thought it was a good idea.

I sat down on my tailgate for a few minutes to let the worst of the pain pass and then threw the shelf out. Loaded one more load and took it over to the storage unit, wearing boots this time.

Relaxed for the rest of the day, watched the great british baking show with jade and played minecraft with the sibs. My ankle definitely still hurts a bit but I can walk on it with only a little pain. I got some bloodwork done this morning and did have some regrets because clutches are very ouchie for ankles.

Oh well. I'm hoping to have another load to the storage unit this weekend, but I'm not pushing it because moving Jade's stuff on Wednesday will be plenty. I do have time. I'm also going to accept my friend's barn airbnb as my temp housing, just because I know her and the area and it will work out. I've also decided to move as much as possible into storage because the stuff that can't go into storage is going to be a decent amount. Like, I have to bring all the electronics with me including the dang tv and the two monitors I have for work stuff. That's annoying!

My goal for this week is to tackle the corner of doom next to my desk, which is looming next to me as I type this. It's a mess. what do I even do with all these papers anyway.

Urk!

Sorry about the ankle!

The schedule for Jade seems decidedly hectic but glad you're sorted out in terms of where you're going.

One thing you can do with papers is hire a shredding service. Once you know you don't want these particular boxes full of paper, you can get someone to come and take them away and recycle the shredded bits. It's not the cheapest thing but I find it's a useful part of a major move because paper does build up.

Not deciding before you need to decide is a useful habit!

I find that one box, sure, move it. Five boxes, didn't want to move it. :)

A fire safe is a good plan!

Some smartphone digitisation of the really critical stuff so you for-sure have things like policy numbers can be a good idea, too, even if there's no prospect of a virtual copy of the document. (My insurance company went digital-documents ages ago; passports, no so much. :)

Sounds like your ankle wasn't hurt too badly. Go you for all those accomplishments.
