I have no idea, but it has now stopped so clearly they were trying to fix something and succeeded. It must have been the street over from the apartment complex because I don't think there's anything around here that you can hammer that sounds like wood that loudly and clearly with force.
I guess it was only sounding particularly loud because I have my windows open :P so I guess I can't really complain too much.
The front-end loader the hospital across the street uses to remove snow from their parking lot has a really first-rate, top-of-the-line, reverse warning beeper. It is absolutely impossible to sleep through.
So, on the one hand, absolutely vital stuff; can't let the ambulance lane into the emergency room fill with snow. Can't let the shipping dock become unusable, either. Doesn't stop me from complaining (nor from wanting to perform a surreptitious beeperectomy.)
