You anywhere near the smoke plume?

It's startlingly common, and quite often from "well, you shouldn't have thrown that out like that" rather than "idiot with matches" causes. (Lithium batteries that get crushed/the case cracked after something gets thrown on top of them do not help with this trend!)

it was weird, there was hardly a smoke plume and I couldn't actually see it around the wall of the apartment building while my neighbor could see the dumpster from a slightly different angle. I had to go downstairs and out the door to confirm the dumpster was in fact, on fire. Or smoking at that point. I didn't smell anything and didn't know it was on fire until the fire department pulled in. shrugs

"Hardly a smoke plume" and not smelling anything is likely nigh-optimal for dumpster fires!

(Green roiling clouds... highly sub-optimal.)

Glad there was no "but how did they ignite the rotting pumpkins" aspect to it.
