Not our most successful camping trip

I wrote up a whole long post and was waiting for photos to upload to dropbox and then exited chrome to play a video game and lost the post

so tl;dw: mara was upset about something for about half the trip, nearly ate a baby woodchuck and napped, I read books and made cookies over the fire and also nearly hit a quail (?) with my truck because it wouldn't get out of the road

Pretty sure that's a ruffed grouse. Quail are teeny, more horizontal, and prone to head bobbles. (I am twitchy about using size as a definitive character, but can't get much head stripe or black on the back from the picture.)

Can't tell if that last pic of Mara is contentment or the Serious Mope; hope the former.

Cookies over a fire is pretty good!

oh yeah, that's probably it. It was skinnier than the photos I found online but pattern wise and all, it looks just like it. Quail are apparently Round.

Contentment for once!

I was surprised at how well they turned out. I tilted the pot sideways and flopped them onto the side and they held together just enough so I could scrape them to the bottom. Delicious!

Skinnier might mean it hatched this year. Hasn't filled out yet, kinda like chickens.

And yeah, quail are kinda like feathers on a rugby ball.

Yay! contentment. And Yay! cookies, too.

That fire cookie looks really tasty! I've never thought of making a cookie like that before.

It was an impulse to bring the cookie dough in the first place and I thought about making it in my cast iron skillet but I didnt want it to taste like cookie. So it worked out super well for being spur of the moment! It was delicious
