got some shit done today!
I pruned raspberries, which I think finished them up completely, my parents had been working on them in the past two weeks, then I went and finished pruning the row of blueberries that Dad and I had worked on a while ago.
Then I broke for lunch and discovered that (IIHF WW) Finland beat Canada 4-2, which means that for the first time in the history of the tournament, a country other than USA and Canada is in the gold medal game. Wild.
After lunch, I got the tractor from the west farm, brought it back, dropped the straw spreader and put on the rototiller. It was perfect tillage ground, absolutely gorgeous. I made some beautiful seed beds. It turned out so fluffy and light but also decently packable. I don't know if I've ever worked ground so nice. It was awesome. Other than the rocks at the one end. So many rocks. It took me a little over an hour for the pure rotoilling and that was 14 rows, so it'll be two hours or so to get the other sections rototilled for the summer crops.
When I had gone to west to pick the tractor up, I loaded my truck up with all the needed planting supplies and drove that down so when I was done rototilling, I could get right into planting, which I did! I started with the oats and I was having a little issue with the seeder and got most of it planted. Then I stopped because I wanted to visit grandma and dad had said she'd probably be awake between 2:30 and 5.
So I went back to the house, went to change and realized I didn't have any clean pants because I'd got them all dirty and then thrown them all in the washer, but not moved them to the drier yet. I was so sweaty and gross. So I showered, waited for the jeans to dry (I sat on the couch wearing a towel for pants because all my sweatpants were also in the washer) and caught up on hockey stuff (USA won the USA-Russia game so USA is in the gold medal game).
Went down to grandma's and she was asleep but had been awake earlier but also might wake up later when she got moved around in her bed. I chatted with my aunt and uncle a bit and came back to our house, walked the dogs and then went back down. My two uncles were there and got her moved but she didn't wake up, so I chatted with them a bit and left. I'm going to try and get down there earlier tomorrow afternoon.
Still wasn't dark yet, so I headed back down and loosened a bolt on the seeder, which fixed the issue. I got the oats done, and I seeded one whole row of mixed vegetables for a total of four rows done. There's 14 total for spring crops, so that's not too bad for the first half day (first day of planting takes 2x as long to get things done). I didn't bring a rake down for the flax, which I think I'm going to broadcast. Maybe. Still up in the air. The seeder is definitely helping things move along, I had to hand seed some things, which was actually taking a modified pvc pipe and dropping them in, but it definitely took a lot longer. That's my main issue with the seeder, is that you need a certain amount of seed in the hopper for the seed plate to pick it up, so if you only have a small packet, it won't work.
Dad said he was going to spray tonight and needed the little orange tractor (orchard tractor so it's very narrow), so I drove that back from west, unhooked the rototiller and put it in the shed. But my truck was still at west. I didn't want to leave it there because the west farm is in town and there's about 12 houses that look over the field. I could have taken the farm truck back down but we leave the keys in it. My parents are still gone, they went to an auction today, I was kind of expecting them back but who knows.
So I walked. It's like maybe a half mile but ugh I didn't want to. But I did. So now I'm sitting on the couch, tired because of all of the above. I might need to go out and cover the pallet of fertilizer that was delivered today now that I'm thinking about it. ugh
I walked out there and wandered around looking for a tarp and couldn't find one so that sounds like a problem for dad when he gets back. The dogs are extremely concerned because someone is shooting a gun occasionally and Iggy just disappeared behind the couch which was very funny

May the tillage be indicative of the whole growing season, too.
