but it was a bit of a fiasco

the short of it is that the project manager (Ken) we hired to do it is somewhat incompetent or a liar. Well, we know he lied about stuff or is the kind of person who can't remember what stuff he said when.

He gave us an estimate of just over 20k and as of today, it's probably 28 or 29k total. One of the biggest problems is that he didn't include dumpsters in the estimate and never mentioned the dumpsters at all, or that we'd be paying the dumpster guy directly. We have 3k in dumpster fees that need to be paid. When asked about it, Ken claimed that he couldn't put dumpsters on the estimate because he didn't know how many would be needed for the project

He clearly misrepresented the job to the crew. When we talked to the crew lead, he said he was told it would be a little over a day to do the roof and it was a full three days.

Ken tried blaming stuff on the crew for having bad english (wtf dude), only stopped through twice, told me and F different, contradicting things about who decided things on decisions we made together. He also didn't give F a price on how much plywood replacement would be in case that did need to happen (yes on the whole damn roof). He also added fascia on friday morning, but they had to take it off the house, so why wasn't it on the plan in the first place?

F is pissed as hell and in fact, has yelled at Ken multiple times and has now asked for receipts for everything since Ken has claimed we didn't pay for materials that were in fact paid for once F got some of the receipts. Ken said at one point that he didn't show people receipts.

Unfortunately, Ken was recommended by a friend of F's who is also a contractor and is appalled at how this has turned out. And he specifically told Ken to tell us about the dumpsters when F checked with him.

The roof is done though, the crew did a good job. F and I hadn't considered what our house actually was like and as the roofing crew worked, it rained roofing material into the house, since the ceiling of any room is beams and tongue and groove boards on top, and then the shingles were on top of that. Actually, there was insulation on top of some parts of the house, between the boards and then shingles. But either way, roofing stuff, dust and just gunk on everything and in the places where we were having mouse issues, the mouse nest bits also came down. And bat shit where there was bats.

So I spent the last day and a half deep cleaning the living and dining room. My room and the kitchen were protected by the upstairs, but F has a mess in her room and the cat room which we'll tackle next

what a mess but it's done. We may or may not be paying Ken if there's more to pay.
