Well, we found out ...not much
Feb. 7th, 2024 06:41 pmMara got her xrays today at the vets office. This consisted of dropping her off first thing in the morning and picking her up a little after lunch. She couldn't eat breakfast in the morning and I couldn't even give her treats for getting in the truck since she was being sedated for the xrays to make her more comfortable.
She was surpringly not super grumpy about the lack of breakfast although she was very grumpy about going into the vet's office. I leave lots of extra time before I need to take her in because she finds lots of things she's very interested in sniffing. It's a solid 15-20 minutes to go 150 feet.
I got her in there, signed some forms and then left. She got one of the rooms where they see patients all to herself for the day since she was too big for their kennels.
I went home and sent some work emails and then around 11, the vet called me and asked if I could come pick Mara up at 1:30. Sure I said!
I did some things on the way up and then headed to the vet's office. Got there a few minutes early and they let me into the room where Mara was laying flat on the floor. She eyeballed me but relaxed. Vet came in after a few minutes and we talked about Mara's xrays and as it turns out, Mara doesn't have any arthritis at all. None! The vet said, normally this would be good but given the issues she's having, clearly there's something else happening.
But the pain injection does seem to be helping her, she has generally been perkier and spent about an hour and a half of monday's crafting zoom barking. She tried trotting the other day too. So we're continuing with those pain injections and seeing how things go.
The vet tech helped me get her to the truck and I got her lifted in. Getting her out was interesting...normally she steps down and I lift her front end and walk her to the edge and set her down. But I didn't think the coordination to step down was there, so I went around the side of the truck that she was partially laying against, worked my arms under her and pulled her out and down. I'm getting good at carrying her. She wobbled her way inside with help.
Mara has been zonked all afternoon and evening and I expect a cranky dog when I get her up to go out in five minutes or so. But she's eaten half her dinner already, next is to get her to drink water.
