turkey day

I have spent the last week playing so much Coral Island. It just came out as Early Access and there's some definite issues with it, but it's still early access. It's honestly a bit better than stardew valley in my estimation if they can wrangle some late game content and get the serious issues fixed (something with AMD graphics cards not allowing them to run the game, yikes).
For turkey day, I did the baking extravaganza and the custard pie froze extremely well. So I can make that whenever I want and freeze the custard. It defrosted with no issues and I couldn't tell it had been frozen. I will post the recipe when I get home. I have the main one here on my computer but I made modifications to it that I wrote on the paper copy. I've been slowly printing all my recipes out so that I have them both hard copy and digital because I don't trust that something won't happen and if the entire internet dies and my computer, I want to be able to make all my recipes.
I left Mara at my brother's house because the schedule was get there between 1:30 and 2 and eat at 3 and I figured I could spend 5 or 6 hours then go back and take care of her. Dinner ended up being 4pm, which wasn't terrible. I also had zero information about how many people would be there, hence baking extravance and I'm glad I made so much food. It ended up being 14 or 15 people! I think most of them were on L's side of the family and/or friends and relatives of friends. I'm honestly not sure. But I brought my crochet projects and nearly finished a mitten.
My custard pie was a success, so much so, that it was nearly gone and the traditional pies of pumpkin and apple, only had a few slices taken out of each. Everyone complimented me on it and one person asked for the recipe which I had to look up where I got it. I think I actually got it from a pillowfort or dreamwidth post and the link didn't come with it when I copied it, because the link is for something different. But it's someone's adaptation from a book, so good enough. I didn't contemplate that the recipe might have diverged so much from the original.
I bailed a little after 6, since I knew Mara had been walked around noon but still needed dinner and water. I got back and my brother had left the rotunda unlocked, which has three steep stairs, so I got into the house just fine. However, I went to take Mara out the back (main) door and realized that the door, which has three different locks, had been locked with one that needed a key for both inside and outside, instead of the deadbolt with interior latch that my brother thought he had been locking. He didn't think about it! And of course there wasn't a spare key. So I gave him a quick call to see which doors elsewhere were most likely to be clear and easy for Mara to get out and we ended up exiting through the pool room. There was some overgrown weeds I had to knock back but it was a ramp and easy out for Mara.
We wandered around in the dark and then headed back in. Everyone else came back by 8ish and we were all very sleepy tired so didn't game much. Today we're going to some garden thing? And I'm leaving tomorrow morning as early as I can get out the door.
