So we turned the heat on yesterday, woo, great. Except, apparently we don't have hot water now. The heat still works, so the boiler isn't broken. But no hot water. I have called the plumbing people to fix it because I poked at the boiler a bit and I can't find any particular error code or issue that it's complaining about, just the little wrench picture. Computers, bah.

Plumbing people are coming tonight, yay emergency fee. But I'd rather pay the extra and get it dealt with.

I think that's entirely prudent!

Went through a protracted "what is wrong with the furnace?" set of issues here; eventually it became clear that the furnace was fine, but had been set up with a black box so the black box (three feet of cable into the wall from the thermostat) behind the thermostat could talk to it. Take both of those out and the completely standard thermostat works fine.

I wouldn't have figured that out in finite time; the very senior person who came out the third time took half an hour total.
