I have a discord server for women's hockey and it has grown to have a decent crowd in there (~80 people) although most don't chat regularly. I had someone pop in recently, maybe 2 weeks ago and they are chatty and nice, and eventually revealed themselves as working with an organization that works closely with the PHF and that they regularly talk to players, leaders in the PHF and other folks.

Last night they got into a snit with another person in the server about why a player wasn't signed with a certain team. I was away from my computer and saw it this morning. This person said the other person was wrong about the situation but couldn't say why and just decided to insist this to the other person despite them clarifying some other thoughts they had. They both got snippy and one of the other folks in the server who helps out suggested they move to a different channel and the chat died there.

This morning I have been dm'ing with people and this person really wants to be able to correct what they call false narratives that fans have about situations in the league but they aren't able to discuss any of the details of the situation. And what I asked them to do was to step back from conversations about that kind of thing, because simply telling people they are wrong but not able to explain why or how or provide supporting information is a terrible way to do things.

And I don't know if there's a good way to resolve this. Obviously they want more truthful information out there, but in my mind, they aren't going to make anyone believe them by just telling them "you're wrong and I can't tell you why" and I'd rather avoid the snit situation happening again. And the way they went about it, it was fairly rude in tone and attitude.

(we do have a complaining channel in the discord specifically for complaining and they were in there last night too trying to get people to complain less but that's less ambiguous)

I dunno. This stuff is messy. I don't think I'm doing the 100% right thing asking them not to say stuff but I don't think it's a helpful thing to be saying because honestly, I don't actually even know if this person is who they say they are. I don't know. Ugh.
