April Crafting Update and May Crafting Goals

April Goals

• weave tablet weaving project - did some weaving!
• spin a third of the purple roving - did this! one third left
• flick the fleece I'm working on - try and finish it? - flicked! And started combing
• get contact info for the people with the alpacas - done! fleeces acquired
• carve down new spindle shaft - not done
• knit something - I frogged the sock I was working on because it's been 8 months and it was wrong so I'm now crocheting a pair instead
• start a new crochet project? - started socks!

Not a lot of pictures to post this time other than the fleece samples. I'll make a bigger post about them soon. I have about 40 pounds of fiber all combined, I weighed and tagged the bags so I can at least know what I've got. I got some produce crates (the farm no longer uses them and they just have a pallet of them sitting behind their barn and they're happy to let us use them) with holes in the bottoms and sides and they fold up. I'm going to get some bins that they can fit in and hopefully be able to wash a fleece at a time with about a pound of fiber in each crate.

That all looks extremely fluffy and the white stuff looks like it's burning through from the otherworld next to the other colours.

Also, yay, produce crates!

Ha, my phone tries it's best, but sometimes doesn't succeed. I'm pretty excited to speed wash things

Not a photography complaint! I can see individual strands just fine, so it really is that bright.

It's just a notably definite contrast/the washing went really well sort of remark.

Oh haha, they aren't washed yet! The white I washed over the last few days actually seems to glow but I think this photo was a camera trick.

If that's what it looks like unwashed I now want to know if someone irradiated that sheep!

Those are beautiful samples. Also, 40 pounds of washing one pound at a time!

They are so pretty! I think I'll be doing 2-4 pounds at a time once I really get set up but most of it is just soaking time. So far the best washing method has been 24 hour soak, rinse, 24 hour soak, rinse, 15 minute soak with soap, rinse and dry. The part of fleece 1 I washed like that has turned out incredible bright white so I'm pretty happy with it.

It is definitely very white!!
