it's 9:30 am and it has:
  1. snowed 5 inches instead of the 1.5 predicted and it's still snowing
  2. I dropped my phone and the screen is black, so I'm now on my backup phone while I hopefully can send it out to be fixed
  3. someone drove her car into the ditch in front of the house. she's okay, was able to climb out of the passenger seat. now there's a trooper sitting in the driveway with his lights on and the girl's friend parked in the yard while they wait for a tow truck to come and get the car out of the ditch
I have not packed anything and I will need to clear the driveway again once everyone leaves so I think I might not be leaving for my parents until tomorrow. the roads are absolute trash right now, which I wasn't expecting. we are right around the corner from the town plow storage so usually our road is cleared pretty well, but damn it's bad driving. I checked some of the highway traffic cams and those are fully plowed, so this is just a problem for us I guess

I brought the girl inside while we waited for the trooper to come so she could stay warm because it's chilly out there.

ETA: my stomach is upset and I didn't fully eat breakfast

Double ETA : there's interpersonal nonsense and the person who is her emergency contact has a stay away on him and the cop won't let her leave with him so the two of us are in the house and the guy left while a different friend comes to get her

final eta: the first tow truck got a flat tire on the way here, so second tow truck took a bit to arrive. tow truck guy pretty easily popped it sideways out of the ditch, which was pretty impressive and now finally everyone is gone out of my driveway at 11am

I decided after the chaos of the morning if I could pack and leave by 1pm I would go because then I wouldn't be driving in the dark. The doctors appointment for the 24th at 2pm is really a wrench in my plans, because if I waited until tomorrow to go, it wouldn't make sense to just drive back that day and I'd stay home until the 24 and then drive down and miss two whole days with my family.

Or something.

Either way, I packed my stuff, quickly cleared the snow running in gear 2, ate lunch, put everything in the truck and closed up the house to stay warm and hit the road right at 1pm. I got gas and a lot of snacks. The plows had come through and cleaned our road up well by then and the sun came out which helped a lot. The main roads were all fine.

Once I was on the highway, it was actually slightly worse because the wind was much worse on those roads and it started to blow snow onto the roads. I and 50 other cars and like 20 tractor trailers also got stuck behind a plow for 20 minutes or so because they go 35mph and you can't pass them. Then we drove through a snow squall.

I was worried about the back road I take for about an hour but it was almost all fine and the only problem spots were windy ones.

I have been fed cream dried beef and have my heated blanket and about to watch my sister's choir concert so life is good
