This week has been busy.
The movers came Sunday with F's furniture. She spent the rest of the week hauling stuff over with help of family and friends and was out late last night wrapping up at her apartment. She's done! And had to go work in her actual office today.
Originally my parents were going to zip up for a short visit, come in tonight and stay through sunday morning. Then Wed evening, my mom said my cousin had been in a bad car accident and my dad took my cousin's girlfriend to the hospital and did the night shift that night. And my mom has a stomach bug. Plus holiday weekend. So we decided to cancel them coming up. It will give us more time to settle in (F's stuff is in the living room and we need to move it upstairs soon). My cousin is lucky to be alive (he fainted and ended up going through the windshield) although he has serious spinal injuries and a partially collapsed lung. But he is talking and doing as well as he can. Kinda sad my parents can't see the place yet, I really want to show them everything.
Work has been taking me all over the place on some longer days so I've been tired after work.
Still have managed to knock out some smaller projects for the house. Like I built a shelf for our spices that can sit on the counter. This morning I built shelves out of planking to go in the kitchen cabinets so we can have some more storage in the kitchen. I think I got our beetle situation under control with two applications of neem oil and I will be vacuuming them up in today. I need to pick up more lumber for fleece drying table and for more shelves since I need to make one more small cabinet shelf and I will be changing a tall cabinet next to the fridge from wall baskets to shelves. Need more hardware for that one.
The big project, the living room floor is now hampered by the electrical. The outlets need to be removed completely because there's no way to remove the outlets from the outlet covers without taking the outlets off. The breakers are not well labeled so
dragonlady7 is coming over later today to play breaker discovery fun. Maybe unpack some things. Once we know which breaker turns off the living room, I'll take the outlets off and cap the wires until I spend some time tracing the wires in the basement. That set of outlets doesn't work anyway because I was poking around and there are definitely chewed wires in the basement so some wires are touching that shouldn't. So this may turn into a full on rewiring project plus conduit at some point in the near future.
I need to think about how I'm going to raise the outlets above the baseboard heaters in a way that makes sense. The online recommendations for running electrical wires in log homes say to drill holes in the logs as it is being built. well that doesn't work for us. I don't really want to notch out the wall so I may bring the wire up beyond the baseboard heaters and just run it along the wall the whole way. Either paint it brown to match the logs or get wild and do some visible conduit. And bring it down around if it's a loop. I've also discovered more than one uncapped wire as I've been poking around. No idea if they're live but I will be digging my multimeter out so I can find out.
I had so many social things last weekend and I have nothing scheduled this weekend but I think that's good.
