Jan. 31st, 2021 11:02 am I got to go ice skating today! For the first time since March! Or maybe February, I don't know when I last skated
I do remember how to skate!
One of the parks north of us by half an hour or so puts up outdoor ice skating rinks and they did two this year in the hopes that people would spread out. I just went to the first rink I could find on the area and if I can I'm going to try and find the other since it might be harder to find and less people will go to it.
I walked Mara this morning and couldn't go far because it was -5F and despite all the floof, her feeties get cold in the snow and she tries to lay down. She's always done it and I can't quite figure out why but it cold and she isn't used to it.
Anyway, I waited until 9ish to leave to let the sun warm things up a bit and to let breakfast digest. It warmed up to 2 degrees. I was very well dressed, two layers of long johns, long sleeve shirt, hoodie and poofy coat. I had a mask on under my scarf.
I was the only one there! My plan worked! I skated around, much more carefully than normal because the rink was a little uneven and had some cracking in various places. But it was a decent size and I was able to skate around and have fun and I practiced my crossovers and backwards skating.
I ended up sweating but all I did was unzip my coat and take my scarf off. Once I started cooling down after about 40 minutes or so, I called it quits because I didn't want to push it too much. It was perfect timing too because three cars pulled up around then.
It was good :)
