I'm so proud of myself.

Somehow in my measuring and rototilling, I ended up with three extra rows of space. Two are because I condensed my planting due to having less plants and seeds than expected. One is because when I put in my spring crops, they are positioned on either side of the fall crops, which are smack in the middle. So it goes summer|spring|fall|fall|spring|summer. Except for one row of peas which is for PYO customers and closest to the strawberries. When I did my initial rototilling of my spring crops, I measured out where to rototill to in the spring crops, then I drove to the north end of the field, kinda eyeballed the edge and put one row in there. There was a rye vetch cover crop in the summer section.

As it turns out, I managed to add about 6 feet to my field all the way across. I'm okay with this except I had some trouble coming up with things to put in there. I'm a little limited on what melons, watermelons and squash I can plant because I'm trying to keep them relatively isolated so I can save seed. The melons are Minnesota Mini (palm sized) and Iroquois Melon (got it in a trade) and the watermelons are Winter King and Queen (storage!!!! watermelon) and Royal Golden (yellow skin). I also had a spot in the fall section where the experimental peas had died over the winter and it was pretty far from the other watermelons, so I put in Blacktail Mountain, which is an early, smaller variety.

So I filled one row with just random assorted seed, small amounts of older seed, stuff like that. Mom had used part of the extra wide row for her stuff, and I filled most of the rest with flowers, which I used up all of them. I hope they survive because I'm not watering them.
some ramblings and a few photos )

Then this morning I had a late start but got all my rice transplanted and finished up the rest of the field. Did I more or less throw some things in the ground very quickly, yes. It's fine though. I've got more thoughts and pictures but I'm literally falling asleep as I type so I'm going to bed.
