It's snowing the tiniest snowflakes right now.

I thought it was supposed to be rain from morning until this afternoon but apparently not. We did get some freezing rain last night, and during our evening walk it was tiny hail. Like it looked like gentle rain but it was frozen. Mysteries. But the freezing rain has put a layer of cronch over all the snow although it's pretty thin.

The roads weren't bad even with that freezing rain. Mostly slush so I'm heading to work as normal. I suspect the schools are delayed.

Mara indulged in her favorite game this morning which is me holding ice chunks so she can bite small bits off and shake her head to "kill" them. It's very amusing. She also almost got stuck while rolling around, the ice held up under her and should couldn't get traction for a minute. It was funny.

Ugh, time to get up and get moving.

Work this week consists of waiting on other people mostly. As a low-on-the-totem-pole (side note, what's a good different term for this because I'm thinking about this and hmmm that doesn't sound like a great term to use, low in the pecking order? last in the lunch line? last bowling pin standing? Last on the swingset? Okay, I'm just making these up) person, I'm mostly working on the physical aspects of conference preparation: printing things, assembling things, etc.

Which none of those things are complete for me to do them! Our conference starts Tuesday!

Like, we're running the dang thing!

I've kept the attendee list up to date and I've got it filled out as best I can. Some people just don't respond when you ask them basic questions like, what are the names of the people attending?

Wild.

Also I'm keeping the attendee spreadsheet up to date in an excel spreadsheet which is terrible and there must be a better way but after this year, that's no longer my problem so long as our new admin stays on since I was just covering for previous admin leaving.

I've been prodding people about various things and they finally got shit like the lanyards ordered on monday.

The problem is that I wasn't hired until after the conference last year and the admin who handled it left in November so apparently no one else knows how to run this? Like, what? Granted, this is our second year doing this but also basic shit like brochures and lanyard and signs are all getting done last minute which costs more which is not good because budgeting.

I'm just hoping our new admin doesn't run away from us....

 Finally printing things.

Fun fact, the printer doesn't like stacks of things that are stapled so I get to sit out by the printer (in the hallway) and monitor the printer and just. pull stacks of paper from the output tray sometimes. It's a glorious job.

But I get to do whatever I want on my computer so it works out. We have these large carts so I just grab one and set up shop. Standing desk!

My right hip: less awesome!

So I went to this place because it's the only rink I could find with weekday evening public skate and it turns out that it's an outdoor rink with a roof! I've never been to one before! It was colder than a normal rink because there was a bit of a breeze but not bad at all.

And it was not busy at all.

The busiest the rink got was like 7 people and that was including the staff of teenage hockey boys on the ice. At more than one point, I was the only person on the ice.

It was awesome.

I did better at my left crossovers and after I'd been alone on the ice a little bit, I decided to change direction (sidenote, why do rinks only go counter clockwise????) and after about five minutes my right hip cramped up, which I wasn't expecting at all. I'd been having issues with my right skate skidding and couldn't figure out if it was the skate or if it was how I was skating, my right hip wasn't doing that at all. I suspect it's my hip, not doing the pushoff correctly because of a lack of developed muscle. Crossovers were done but not great because I had no flexibility in that hip.

I skated with long johns on and I don't think it made a difference. I also need to pick up some thin gloves because I don't have any.

I'm definitely going to go back, with so few people, I can work in the other direction to build those muscles up.

Two weeks until lessons!
