unicorndukesports I now love to watch at the olympics, especially the women:
- rugby
- archery
- hammer throw (holy shit)
- the rest of the equestrian, which is a given
- modern pentathalon (apparently it is fencing, swimming, running, shooting and horseback riding and the funniest thing to me is that they get a random horse 20 minutes before they ride)
- soccer medal matches
- handball if I have the time
- rhythmic gymnastics
- probably some others

Date: 2021-08-01 10:44 pm (UTC)"Modern" pentathlon was invented with the late-19th-early-20th Olympic revival as a competition for cavalry skills -- all the events are things you might do running a message between units -- so OF COURSE you can't bring your own personal favourite horse, it's "take that horse, go!" in the rules.
(A truly modern version would involve things like track tensioners, radio repairs, and tank driving, which could be really fun to watch but I don't imagine the Olympic committee would go for it.)
