Time passes, things happen
Nov. 4th, 2020 11:50 amI forget to post on here when things are as normal. Relatively.
I have been ignoring social media and not checking the news. Jade will let me know the results when it's finalized because she is fucking nuts (and a history major) and watched the news all night. She works overnights so it's her normal awake schedule but my god, it sounds horrible. I've had a decent week otherwise. I mailed my ballot in a few weeks ago so I had been set.
I think I'm catching up on sleep from October, I've slept a lot. But I also set up a workout plan and have been sticking to it. As it turns out, working out is pretty much a perfect sleep inducer for me. So multiple benefits. And to be honest, it's something that takes up time in my day which will be more important as the winter goes on. It's replacing ice skating that had been my hobby in the before times.
I've been doing a lot of spinning and watching twitch streams where everyone collectively decided that we all needed a break from the election. I've also done more active hangouts with friends, helped one friend run a tournament on Friday and we did a bunch of chatting. I'm planning to start streaming video games tomorrow, chill games so I have some scheduled video game time that I haven't really had. I was going to start last night because it was the first tuesday in november but changed plans once I realized what day it was.
Last week was basically potato week, we graded all the potatoes that we harvested and got the culls graded too. It was pretty incredible considering we had eight bins of potatoes all in 50 pound bags.
Now the only field work left is harvesting the last of the leeks which will happen....eventually. I've been crunching data all week in the hopes of getting trial information around to present them all Dec 9th. I'm doing the data work on peas, watermelons, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes and leeks. Just a few things. "Data work" is data entry, data cleanup, analysis, and report creation which includes data charts and pictures and descriptions of all the varieties. The peas are actually done, I did those back in August or something thank goodness but all the trials have slightly different needs, data and analysis that get done and how they are presented.
I was going to run my own session on Dec 9th and get some growers to present on easy add-on crops for retail sales but I don't think I'll be able to get everything around since we haven't had another planning session for those meetings after the initial one. So we don't even have a time set. I'm pushing my session back to February so I can get everything done. Plus since everything is virtual, the conference sessions will be virtual and the techs job is to actually get the info from the specialists and get it set up on the web platform. Given that I support three specialists, I'm also going to be busy with that.
I've been knitting a shawl and it's turning out okay. I've made a bunch of mistakes but pretty sure you can't tell. It's definitely a good learning experience. Did some flax processing and I want to spin that as well. I suspect I've got plenty of hobby things to get me through the winter, I just need to decide the little details like am I taking my spinning wheel with me for Isocation 2020 (TM). I'm wondering if I should try and finish the shawl in time to start a new project at the start of that. Hmmm. Next project is probably a knitted sweater so maybe I should hurry along with it.
Anyway. I'm alive still. And chugging along. Relatively normally for these times.

Date: 2020-11-04 05:25 pm (UTC)Hurrah for moving the deadline out!
Also for sticking to the exercise plan.
That does sound relatively normal, and may it long continue so.
Do you know about the little powered travel spinning wheel substitute things? I would presume so, but they seem to be fairly obscure. (and expensive; not likely a right-away sort of thing.)

Date: 2020-11-04 07:31 pm (UTC)It seems sadly likely that regular social life shall not have resumed in February, so I'm say that was good timing; you won't be waiting for the next kickstarter.
I backed a kickstarter for a screwdriver; it was supposed to deliver in December. They were expecting a few hundred backers, they got five thousand and change. There will be delivery delays....

Date: 2020-11-04 07:48 pm (UTC)Both good and bad timing, bad timing according to the update on it, one of the last parts was delayed a little because of covid (plastic parts from China) and good timing because I will still be doing lots of spinning in February/March/April. So I think it works out, just will miss Isocation!

Date: 2020-11-05 01:45 am (UTC)There's a whole lot of that parts delay going around. Hope it comes through in a timely way.
Looked up what I presume is the wheel; that's a well-iterated design. I am now having a tough time not picturing one of those early 19th Quaker domestic portraits with the walking wheel only with an electric wheel and a solar panel instead.

Date: 2020-11-05 03:19 pm (UTC)"Electric Eel Wheel" is a pretty amazing mental image itself!
And, yeah, that's what I found. Nice to see someone with the engineer nature finding their niche like that.
