Busy week already and it's only Monday
Aug. 19th, 2019 08:12 pmI've got two pots of tomatoes simmering on the stove, destined to be paste. I've got at least that much again in tomatoes still to be processed. This batch will go in the oven first thing in the morning tomorrow.
Today I went and did the strawberry trial work, basically five separate tasks on 13 different plots. replace sticky traps, empty pitfall traps, take leaf sample, take fruit sample, do tarnished plant bug check. The traps both had their contents bagged. It was boiling hot by 10:30 when I arrived and stayed that way. I was absolutely dripping by the time I finished at 12:30 and then the wind picked up and cooled things down a little in the afternoon as I was finishing other things.
Got one batch of paprika peppers dried in the oven. They say not to do that because it cooks them but honestly, I need the peppers mellowed from cooking and also I've had zero success drying them in the toaster oven on low or whatever. No dehydrator so shrugs. Plus they take forever. This gets them dry and they still taste like peppers. I also tasted one of them. I had a regret after that.
Tomorrow, I'm helping with a late work meeting, so leaving the apartment around noon. That means I can get things done in the morning, like grocery shopping and maybe figuring out what I'm going to eat tomorrow night for dinner. I've been struggling to meal plan, a combo of wanting to try new things with all the pork I've got but not having the time or energy to figure it out and cook it. So I default to easy quick stuff like potatoes but there's no animal protein in there so I end up starving hungry pretty soon after. I think the answer is to take something out of the freezer and that will force me to cook it.
I'm also super tired because we had family dnd last night after the exhausting drive, and it was not a short session and I finally just told them I was done at 10. Then I had to get my stuff out of the truck. Most stuff was dry with a few damp things.
So late meeting tomorrow.
This week is the Aurora Games, and for the hockey stuff, there's two mornings of open practices, Wednesday and Thursday. Then an evening exhibition game in Glens falls Thursday night and the main game Friday night in Albany. I'm going to try and get to those four things by splitting my normal Thursday over wednesday and thursday afternoon. It actually works out well because work stuff takes me that direction anyway. There's also a Meet and Greet but I'm kinda terrified at that because I've never been to one and don't know how it works. Plus it's wed afternoon, and it might be annoying to make the drive twice when there's nothing else going on and no other reason to head up there.
I kinda want to try and go to some of the other events but I don't know if I can. Maybe that's what I'll do, go to the gymnastics on Wed instead of the signing. Ice skating is Saturday afternoon. oh shit, I forgot tickets depend on seating omg fucking 100 dollars for seats close y i k e s
lol okay, I'll look at the cheap seating, especially since I might need to pay for parking.
Anyway. That's many things until Friday. I have no clue if I can get over to the A Farm and get some rippling done. Maybe I'll do that Saturday.

Date: 2019-08-22 03:19 am (UTC)Rice and potato can cook together really well. (I have a week six cup rice cooker with steamer top racks; steaming cubed potato over the cooking rice is a thing, or at least a thing in cooler seasons.)
I don't know how fat the venison is; the usual thing with venison is to put in some literal lard because fat is flavour and the venison didn't have any fat of its own. (Being in the general case a complete spice wimp, I'd be careful of the spicing the first couple-three times I did that.)

Date: 2019-08-23 01:26 am (UTC)I have clearly spent too much time cooking for people with dietary fat aversion, and will remember you haven't got that.

I actually need to get the giant blob of lard rendered that is in my freezer at my parents house from the pork adventures. I got all the lard :D
