unicornduke I went to the sports store this afternoon and I dug through their used stuff. Unfortunately I didn't find anything used in my size but I did find a new pair that were $60 which was cheaper than I was expecting for a nice new pair. So I got them and since they were new, they sharpened them for me right in the shop. (they also had a good selection of used goalie gear for consideration later)
the dude who went to sharpen my skates came back out after sharpening and was looking for me. I was sitting off to the side in some of the racks while I waited. He came back out and said, "hey where's the person for the skates. was it a dude or a lady?" which is something that always always makes me laugh. And then made eye contact with me as I hopped up.
I don't think he ever figured it out but I laughed a lot in the truck about it.
I also needed skate guards but I didn't buy them because I have all these canvas pants I can't use anymore. I would repair them but all the holes are in the crotch and I can't repair them well enough to keep them from ripping at the crotch even more. But now, I cut the legs off and I'm using those as skate guards for now.
So now I have funny wraps for my skates and canvas jorts with a giant hole in the crotch.
