rolling along
Sep. 15th, 2024 07:27 pmI had a great time at weaver's guild on thursday night, glad I went and I got to show off the waistcoat (still need to write my august fiber roundup and take nice pictures of the waistcoat. someday)
Friday morning, I packed up myself and the dog and hit the road, headed south and picked up my sister from a train station and then headed to my parents. The trip took a little longer than expected, with me being a little delayed with the dog, then we needed a pit stop for bathroom break, then I missed an exit but took the one I knew instead and there was construction delays which is why google tried to re-route me a different way. Ah well.
Got there around 1pm, ate lunch, set the dog up with her bed, breakfast, water and then closed her into the pen so she wouldn't be running to the door to check who was there/try and make a break for it when I was out of the house.
I went down to the selling area and started cleaning the back room. The problem with the backroom is that it is an enclosed room of a pole barn, so gravel/dirt floor and despite their best efforts, birds got in and pooped on most stuff a little bit. But it was all covered in dust too. So I set up a table, pulled bins one at a time, removed their lids, scrubbed the lids down, cleaned the sides of the bins as needed and set them aside to dry in the sun. Pulled everything off of four of the five shelves/benches and got it all cleaned, brought some of it back up to the storage shed by the house, removed the tablecloths that covered the shelves and replaced them with new ones. Anything food related got covered in case the birds came back in.
Saturday, we went to the PA Ren Faire. It was my cousin, my sister and I, we drove together down and arrived around noon. Then my brother and his fiancee arrived around 2pm and they brought their dogs. It was a wonderful time! PA Ren Faire was better than the NY Ren Faire by the time we got to parking because they had much much better crowd control than NY. They had three separate lines of traffic coming into the parking lot and they were parking all three lines in different places. NY has one way in and it's slow, we've sat in traffic for over an hour before, this weekend, barely 10 mins. They must also limit tickets because a friend of L's tried to get tickets and they were sold out.
It was very shady, lots of trees, it was a huge area as well, 35 acres and we missed a whole chunk of it by accident. They did have water refill stations, but the lines were long for it so I bought water. Their map included basic menus for the food options and they labeled the vegan and gluten free options, so I bought something that I originally assumed I wouldn't be able to eat! it was a pulled pork hand pie and it was super delicious. There was only one ice cream stand which was a shame but none of the lines were super long and there was so many vendors and shops and food places. We watched the morning joust, which was the skills like rings or hitting things with swords. Delightful.
I asked mom to walk Sheeba while I was gone and I called her and talked her through how weird she was and they did great! Another advantage of the PA over NY, there was cell service. NY says there's cell service but it simply doesn't work. The data didn't work at PA, but I could make calls and get texts quickly.
pretty great Ren Faire and we'd definitely go again! We missed so many shows and music, it would be awesome to go again, even more than once a year. It never felt packed even if there was decent crowds there.
We left around 5pm because there was another mission to accomplish that was farm related. And also we were getting tired. We took a lot of breaks for the dogs but we were tired. It was hot, but the breeze and the trees helped a lot. And the ice cream.
The farm usually buys jams and jellies from an Amish cannery in Lancaster and I volunteered to pick it up this year since we'd only be 45 minutes away. In the past, my parents tried having them ship but they arrived broken, so they went for a scenic drive the year after and picked it up. J, Z and I had a delightful time driving through Amish country. There's just something really fun about going for a drive with people who like to laugh about stuff but also will delight over some really nice barns. There was some beautiful old, huge bank barns that we all ooh'd and aah'd over.
Anyway, we drove to the place, no one was there as expected, so we loaded the boxes up, left the check on the windowsill and hit the road home. Delightful conversation on the way home. Got home at 8:30pm. There was a family gathering since my Uncle was in town but I was wiped. Took Sheeba out one last time, showered and went right to bed.
This morning, I got up and then we did farm planning. I went and cut up boards for group outing site signs but realized they were still wet, so they needed to dry before painting. Then I finished the backroom of the selling area. Lots of little bins and bowls to do on the remaining bench, so got that all out, then vacuumed the bird shit, then scrubbed the counter down, then brought it all back in. In the middle of this, dad moved the RST to it's spot where it will become my office for the fall. I worked straight through lunch, then went up to the house, packed a lunch for the road, all the stuff and then walked the dog and hit the road. I'm home now, sleepy tired but I showered and put most stuff away. I might return Sheeba tomorrow during crafting, but it's up in the air right now since C is in transit/layover in Iceland and presumably asleep when I responded.
Sheeba and I have an understanding now, she's weird but I've figured out the weird and now she wags her tail at me when it's walk time. Good stuff. She's a great traveler to be honest, she just napped in the front seat on the way home, didn't need a break at all.
getting shit done!
