August Crafting Update and September Goals
Sep. 1st, 2023 03:47 pm- spinning - I think I'm formulating a weaving idea to spin, but I'm not 100% sure I'll do that yet right now. So spin something, chain ply Pansy Pandemonium and skein/wash/label everything - chain plyed the whole pound of Pansy Pandemonium, spun 4oz of Soay? and 4 oz of Gulf Coast or Navajo Churro? (no picture of this, I only took blurry photos of it apparently), skeined three things and half of Pansy. Started spinning 24 oz of carded rolags of white alpaca from fleece, but need to switch to my flax wheel, the CPW is too fast for it
- knit the new sweater - worked on it, very happy with how it's coming out. It'll be a little bit but that's okay.
- crochet the second pair of mittens - worked on it a little
- finish the tablet weaving - close to done
- finish tying heddles and thread the loom and reed and then weave jeez - heddles all tied, more than half put on the loom
- finish the alpaca fleece - nope, but came up with the plan for this. Softest bits that I carded and combed will be spun into probably 2 ply and woven into scarves, one will be a gift maybe. I should get two nice long ones out of it. Card up the rest of the coarser stuff, 2 ply and then weave with the white alpaca that I just started spinning
- wash a fleece - nope
- write one post about fiber arts stuff - I have at least three things I want to write up, the plaid, the romney singles weaving, using fishing swivels with a backstrap loom - nope
Chain plyed Pansy Pandemonium, I took this photo of half of it on the reel. I measured this out so I could get information on how much I would have to use as warp, then balled it right from the reel. It's going to be plain woven with the other 8oz and it should come out long enough that I can cut it in half and sew the two sections together for a blanket. If I ever get the other project of the loom, this is next.

Skeined yarns. I skeined up the mystery purple wool as a two ply with itself with 4 oz (bottom skein), then plyed the other 4 oz with white montadale for a barberpole yarn (middle skein), the possibly soay yarn is singles since I didn't really know what to do with it. I may take it and all the other random rustic yarns, spin a lot of consistent color warp and weave a lot of cloth for some kind of big fancy wool coat.

September goals
- Spin alpaca and ply, wash and label skeined yarns
- knit sweater
- crochet mittens
- get the damn heddles on the loom, then thread heddles, then sley dent and weave. By end of Sept I will be throwing the shuttle
- work on a fleece
- wash a fleece?
- write a blog post?
