Halloween grumping today. I've never quite gotten over my dislike for the specifics of halloween despite my love for the fall season, but working on a pumpkin farm growing up will impart a great dislike. so I'm not going anywhere today. Plus this is the best time of year to feel my natural contrariness. If I'm not careful, that trait could drift into anti-authoritism in an unproductive way (libertarianism boy howdy could I see that happening if I wasn't self aware), so I channel it towards irritating marketing stuff like the enormous push towards buying candy around halloween and things like that. No I don't want candy, no I don't want spooky doodads. No I will not be buying your stupid shit even though it's kinda neat. Saves me money and gets those feelings out.

This weekend, I helped [personal profile] dragonlady7 put up insulation in her cabin, definitely a two person job especially at various points where we were moving scaffolding and then couldn't move it further so one person was hanging over the edge a bit while the other held up the insulation piece and ballasted at the same time. I was absolutely covered in fiberglass and immediately went home and showered and then washed those clothes twice. But now she's all insulated and much warmer.

Sunday, I went over and taught her how to use my little electric wheel since she's been struggling to manage a wheel that is cranky and treadles and learn the mechanics of spinning all at once. I spun and carded fleece. We had family dinner at the farm after and I was absolutely stuffed full of food and it was all so good and a lovely time.

I finally got my work setup done properly, the dock and the screen and all that. This was part of the full room organizing I did last weekend, where I completely rearranged things, so my bed is near less baseboard heating, my desk is in a corner, my dresser is near my bed and my spinning and crafting stuff is in a more roomy spot. Lots done and I'm much happier with the setup where my crafting area is away from my desk, which is a work only zone. Today is my only wfh day this week, out in the field the rest of the week and it looks like glorious weather.

I washed a fleece yesterday. Lots of work, mostly carrying water from the sink or stove outside to the scour bins. I soaked it overnight to get most of the dirt out, split it into 4 batches, then presoaked them in warm water since they were icy because of the freeze. Then into the scour bin with 4 gal 120F water from the tap plus a pot of boiling water plus soap for 15 mins. Then two rinses in the 120F tap water for 15 mins each. I should have done a second scout with tap water, boiling water and soap but I cheated it a little because Cotswold is a low lanolin breed and I could. I'm almost out of the soap I use so I need to pick up something else like Orvus paste that a lot of people use.

I had a nice fire running in the outdoor fire pit and I think next time I'm going to boil the water over the fire because wood is free at this house and the stove costs propane to run. I don't mind the 120F from the tap because the boiler is pretty efficient.

Also got the plants in the ground that I received last week. Got a bunch of free plants, one peach tree that the person didn't have room for and some tall ornamental grass and a big mallow type plant. I got them all in the ground and caged the peach tree and a tree F planted because the deer are ravenous right now. Currently they are eating all the leaves off the raspberry plants around the house. Weirdest thing.
