Parent visit went well, managed to get them to relax for one (1) whole day where we sat around on the balcony and chatted, ate lunchmeats and read books. 10/10 very good. The next day, dad and I took apart the baseboard heating units and he showed me how to use the mappgas thingy and only slightly set things on fire. We also went out to eat at a local place which had delicious food, gluten free burger buns (!) and a balcony thing to eat on. Very good. They napped then drove home.

That night, the second floor toilet (one F uses) valve didn't close on the toilet so it ran water through the lines all night. Would be fine except it was nice cold well water and the pipes became covered in condensation and everything was wet including my closet because the upstairs plumbing is in that closet. There was old water damage in that closet so I hadn't been storing anything in there anyway until I could tear it all out and replace it.

Fine. Okay, F bought new toilet innards and planned to replace it.

Then the next night I woke up at 12:30 am to the sound of water in my closet. The second floor shower had backed up and the seal must be bad on that tub because it was coming out around the toilet pipe. Into my closet. And into the basement but eh whatever. We bucketed the water out of the tub, then made the decision to call a plumber in the morning. I was driving 2.5 hours for work the next morning so F took care of all that.

The plumber came out pretty quick while I was at work and apparently there was a sewage incident in the basement and the plumbing is all fucked up (no surprise I guess) so they're coming back on tuesday and we are paying a big chunk of money. Honestly worth it, because apparently the plumber was covered in sewage at one point.

I'm gearing up to do the living room baseboard heating and electrical. Some amount of standing in aisles of the hardware store and staring has commenced. I'm now going to the tiny hardware store nearby because I went to home depot last week and someone took my cart when I was most of the way through my shopping and had left it to squeeze past a thing in the aisle. I was completely unable to find it so I had to get all my items again. So far I have all the things for the electrical and I need to go back once I've written out the joins I need for the baseboard heating. I'm doing the sharkbite stuff so it should be easy if expensive.

That all will be done next weekend over the holiday weekend so I'll have at least 3 days to do it and I may take friday off work for another day. I'm heading to my parents shortly for this weekend. I think every weekend in september I have something booked and most weekends in october.
