I read Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters and my opinion on it was that this book was not written for me

I'm glad other people enjoyed it but I found the characters so different that I didn't really relate to them. I was supposed to feel empathy for them and for the most part I didn't. The sexual scenes were so far from how I've experienced the world that I couldn't comprehend the characters actions because of it.

It was set in NYC and it was extremely NYC and it talked about community and people in ways that I haven't experienced and I found to be really derisive. Maybe those communities are really like that, I have no idea. And some of it was dealing with shame but the characters didn't learn to deal with that shame.

I don't know.

It was fine but I think it was written for a very different audience than me and all of the experiences were so different and framed in ways I didn't understand so it didn't really work for me.
