Jeez where to begin
I knew last weekend would be busy, it was the only open weekend I had in september to do fun stuff so I packed it all in.
Friday night, F and I went to a little artisan show and then out to dinner which I hadn't done in quite some time. I got to eat a delicious burger with a gluten free bun. I'm not sure I'm going to do it again anytime soon though.
Saturday, I had arranged to meet someone from the internet to buy their spinning wheel and yarn winder. The spinning wheel is a Canadian production wheel, big beautiful spinning wheels from the late 1800s into the early 1900s made in Quebec.
I went downstairs to empty the dehumidifiers and realized the basement toilet was spewing sewage everywhere. Fucking ew. F had left for a thing, so I texted her to contact plumbers since that was something she agreed to do. Plumbers couldn't come out that day. I said fuck it and left to go meet with J and buy a spinning wheel. Here it is! It spun so beautifully and it is just beautiful.

I'm also very excited about the yarn winder, no more using my pvc niddy noddy to wind skeins! It'll be nice for those big projects where I have a lot of fine yarn because I frequently had to set it down and leave a tick mark next to it so I knew what was going on.
Ran back to the house, dropped these off, took Mara out and then headed up to my local fiber festival. I chatted with a number of people about fiber and shearing sheep and finally connected with a person who was doing part time shearing and would be willing to take me on apprentice style in the area. Fuck yeah! I need to text them to confirm and all that but they needed an extra pair of hands and right now I need the practice and later some money. I also bought some roving that is all purples and blues. Because of course I did. Favorite colors!
The next day, I went to the NY Ren Faire with my siblings and some of their friends! It was good fun. I ended up buying some fancy crochet hooks that were purple and we got to see the jousts. Wandered around a lot. I left at 3ish which was good because I was tired and also had to pick up some windows on the way home that F had got from a yard sale.
Monday, I realized I was coming down with a cold. Ugh. Covid tested negative twice but it also doesn't feel like the other covid exposures that I've had, which felt very weird symptom wise, headache, kinda dizzy, tested negative on rapids and pcr both times (side note: I do have some kind of immune response when exposed to covid, twice now. I have a tick bite on my stomach from the spring and it swells up and gets itchy. Wild.)
I also attempted to clean the rust from the baseboard heating boards which ended up being a serious fail. The rust cleaner did a bad job and horribly discolored the boards so I'm going to give them one last hose down, let them dry and then just paint them. The WD40 also didn't really do anything either.
Tuesday, I was feeling meh but not awful so I still did work stuff, which was driving. I drove 4 hours to pick up seed for a grant we just got and then drove back. By the end of the day I was feeling worse but not wildly. While I was out and about, the plumber finally came and cleaned out the pipe, the issue was probably a clog in the main line and it was just backing out the basement because it couldn't go anywhere else. We were planning to tear the basement apartment out anyway and redo the whole thing so that's just another point towards that I guess. The unfinished part of the basement was completely unaffected because it is a step up to that, and the basement apartment is just flooring over concrete badly done so it slopes to the drain under the carpet. Gross but it all was going to go anyway. The windows are open and we have dehumidifiers running so that's what we're doing for now. I was pretty cranky about it but at the end of the day, F did promise she would handle that if I did electrical and other things like that. So it is what it is. I ran out of energy to give a shit.
Yesterday, I was properly sick and called off work. Spent the day resting in bed. Just the huge quantities of snot was astounding. I did get Naomi Novik's The Golden Enclaves in the mail and read it (!!!! so good!!!!) and napped.
I feel better this morning, not 100% but I was able to walk Mara in the woods this morning without feeling like death so that's good. I'm still taking today off, I was supposed to help do a big apple pick but I'm still snotty, sneezing and coughing and shouldn't expose my coworkers and drive 2.5 hours, pick a lot of apples and drive 2.5 hours back. Bad idea. So less work stuff this week because I'm gross.
Nap time then maybe doing a few small things.
