I went to my parents this weekend, help them out, work on the garlic. I had this week of work all perfectly planned out.

Well, funny that.

I checked the weather reports yesterday morning and suddenly the tropical storm was heading to the apartment. I swore some and then made some plans. I drove back from my parents this morning to beat the rain, which is only just arriving. It was good fortune because I stopped at a grocery store and got water there, with little to no risk of a run on water. Jade said the local stores were out this morning.

We've got two big packs of water bottles, two extra gallons of water and a gallon of water specifically for the toilet in a used ethanol container. We've got candles, lighters and matches, and lots of offline entertainment. Lots of food, both currently in the fridge and freezer and lots of shelf stable stuff. I also have the bin I packed up in Maryland with the last potential hurricane with plastic utensils and plates and baby wipes and the radio, etc etc so I think we're set there.

The only thing I haven't really been able to super secure is my little window air conditioner. Because I have the world's silliest window design, it is a three foot wide window directly next to another three foot wide window. The frame is plastic set into plaster. I've never had issues with the AC unit moving in the winds we had before (some high winds) so I wedged some of the branches I cut for making into spindles at the top of the frame so hopefully the window can't open and release the AC unit.

I've cancelled or rescheduled all my fieldwork for tomorrow on the assumption that it will be too wet.

I gotta water plants and top off the dog's water bowls and then I'm going to play video games until (maybe) the power goes out.
