Adventures to be out of the apartment
Jun. 1st, 2019 02:39 pmSo me and Mara went on some adventures today. The apartment building is going through some renovations (all cosmetic) and they tore out the sidewalks a while ago and were putting new ones in. Today! Cement trucks are Loud.
First thing this morning, way before the crew actually arrived, we went to the dog park. When we got back, we spent about an hour in the apartment (I cut my hair and Mara napped) until the crew really got going at which point Mara started barking and would not stop.
therefore, adventure time for both of us. They had already laid the cement in front of our building and gave us a walkway over it that was about two feet wide. Our door and our neighbors door have a little two foot wide area that is not sidewalk and sits under the building overhang. So they had set the walkway onto that. I had some bags of supplies for the adventures (water, snacks, lighter shirt, dog bowls, cooler for food) and the crew was keeping an eye on the apartments. I handed two bags off to the guy out there and got Mara manuvered. I had to turn her sideways against the building, lock the door, turn her back towards the walkway, get her on the walkway without stepping on the fresh concrete and scoot her across. Thankfully she was fine with the handling (and I suspect concerned about all the dudes) that she just went right across, taking small steps but moving right along. I took my bags back from the guy and got everything into the truck.
I had to go to the farmers market, so Mara came with. She's never been, it's generally too many people (too many for me tbh) but I got there right as it opened, had only a few things on my list and we moved fast. Ages ago, I ordered a harness for Mara that says "Ignore me, I'm afraid" from this etsy shop here (they also do service dog harnesses and such, lots of options) and is bright yellow. So I pulled it out today and it worked super well. I heard a number of people read it out loud and no one tried to pet Mara.
Then we went yard sale hunting. It was kinda fun to just drive all over for fun, instead of normally for work. We drove through a couple of different towns all about. When it got to be about 11, I stopped through a little town to use the gas station bathroom and check out a gluten free bakery. I got some bread and a cookie dough thing. I've bought their bread at the co op before and I was excited to get a whole load. Best gluten free bread I've had.
Most of the yard sales were pretty disappointing and small.
After that, we got ice cream and then took a little relax break where Mara got a snack and water. We headed south to meet up with
dragonlady7 and I had to turn around when I saw a farm having an estate sale. Normal yard sale stuff generally but I bought some lovely wooden bowls, two large large ones and probably 8 small ones. I'm going to use them for seeds because I have lots of issues with paper bowls of seeds blowing away. If I had some things to pad them, I totally would have bought a huge set of brown mottled dishware. It was really beautiful and was only 30 dollars for probably 50 pieces but they were all glass and I don't think they would have survived. I also don't need any dishware.
I got down to the A Farm and chatted with B and A for a while. I handed over the flax I grew last year, which B is going to do some experimental retting on. It was nice.
I drove back to the apartment complex, hoping that it would be nice and quiet and the concrete crew would have cleared out. They did. But as I pulled in, there was a car with a flat right in the road getting fixed and five police cars and a firetruck at one of the other buildings so that was interesting. Never a dull moment around here.
Relax time for now, maybe a short walk for Mara in a bit, then me and Jade are going out to dinner at a south Indian restaurant and seeing Detective Pikachu.
