I say that a lot , busy busy

Took friday off work and had monday off for labor day, so four day weekend at my parents'. It was a weird weekend, my brother had his girlfriend and a friend come in, all four dogs were there. Minor chaos.

I cleaned garlic friday afternoon, sunday morning during the rain and monday morning. I got it done! I also wanted to get it done to see how much garlic I was setting aside for planting and I ended up with 35 pounds, which is about what I had saved the year before and about half of what I planted. I do need to buy some garlic but as it turns out, saving seed costs exactly the same as buying it. amazing really. So I think going forward, I'm going to keep saving the large seed that I would normally try and sell at a premium (difficult to do when I'm not actually selling it direct to customer and it's easier to keep everything the same price)

I've got a bunch of calculations to do, return, labor costs, whether its better to save or buy seed. All that jazz.

I met up with a friend for bagels breakfast for the first time in a while. We did eat inside but we left before things got too busy and we were the only ones sitting down to eat. One of those calculations I guess. But I won't be doing it again I think.

I spent a lot of the weekend working on deer fencing. My parents are trying a newer type of fencing, three strands, two on an inner fenceline, one on an outer. lines are three feet apart and the inner fence has a high wire and a low wire. Outer fence is in the middle. Baited with peanut butter and electrified. Psychological war with the deer because they could jump it. But the fence wire does look intimidating to me and it was successful in the first patch of strawberries we did. I didn't finish it but I got everything but the gate hookups done and picking up the wire off the ground.

There was also a planning and logistics meeting on the fall side of the business. The pick-your-own pumpkin field moves around over the seasons so we needed to figure out hayride dropping and picking up, how that flows to the registers, where all the displays are going, how we are doing registers. All that jazz. I'm in charge of displays, so I have full control on stocking and setting where product goes. It's a lot of fun actually. A bit like a puzzle.

At some point I cracked my new phone screen again, despite the screen protector which is also now cracked. I think it's when I had set it on the ground so I wouldn't crack it by sitting on it, and then promptly stepped on it. Sighs.

We had a nice little cookout in the backyard with a fire at my suggestion which was lovely. I had stopped to get cheese kielbasa at the little local convenience/feed store on the way home from breakfast with friend. Delicious, especially when warmed over the fire although I sometimes just eat them cold.

I leave you with this picture of my brother's dog Loki being a cute weirdo

A medium black dog with white chest and belly is sitting like a person in a brown chair, staring at the camera. The background is messy.
