December Crafting Update and January Goals
December crafting goals

Yarn I spun up for my sister's dice bags christmas gift. It was two ounces of Merino/tencel, I spun it up decently thick for me and then chain plyed it in like, two hours.

I spun this at my parents, it was 4 oz of extra fine superwash merino carded roving, which made it really fun to spin longdraw. I wasn't sure the colors would turn out well and I think they're okay. It was red, yellow, blue and grey but in stripes along the length of the roving, so I alternated which side I spun from to get some color in sections. I chain plyed it and I think it's good. I will probably put this in the guild show and sale since it's not my taste. I got the fiber from the guild bucket auction so I didn't mind the colors.

This green caught me off guard. I also got it from the weavers guild bucket sale and just look at the label and wrote it down, 35 grams and I got most of the way through spinning before I went....hang on, this is too much fiber. It was carded in batts, and I think someone took the original fiber and blended it with something else. It was slick and the sparkle nylon got everywhere. Pretty color though! I'm going to do a two ply, just ran out of bobbins yesterday. This will also go to the weavers guild show and sale.

Plyed this yarn. The singles have been sitting for a bit, it's 8oz of Romney from Foster Sheep Farm. I think I shouldn't have plyed it and left it as singles and I could have woven with them, but too late. I'm hoping the fibers relax in the wash, but we'll see.

This is yarn I spun the singles in the last few months and it took quite a while. It's 4oz, Targhee fiber and I chain plyed it. This will probably go to the show and sale.

Crocheted dice bags! The right one I made first, single crocheted the interior band and then crocheted the alligator scale stitch on top of the single crochets. You can just make any size bag in crocheting by making a flat circle by starting with magic circle, 10 stitches into the magic circle, then increase every stitch on the next row, increase every other stitch next, increase every 3 stitches, etc until your circle is the right size, then just stitch into every stitch and it turns the sides. Left bag was the first time I did mosaic crochet and it is very easy, I did this at the conference since I had the yarn and hook right there. I was going to try and tablet weave drawstrings using the tubular method but I didn't like how it looked, I think the yarn had too much stretch, so I just braided them and used braids for the drawstrings.

The purse for my mom! I used a pattern from Sotak Handmade and my handwoven fabric for the main fabric. I used some canvas to stiffen the handwoven fabric and then some suiting fabric for the lining. I tablet wove the strap using the Coptic Diamonds pattern but modified. The sewing went relatively easily, other than the seam allowances being 1/8 and 1/4 inch which caused problems with the handwoven fabric loosening up. I reinforced all those seams either with hand stitching or machine topstitching. I don't know why people complain about zippers, these were easy. This was a lot of fun to make and I'll probably make more to sell since it turned out well. I'm going to cut my handwoven fabric larger than needed to account for the edge issue. I also did the whole pattern sized up by 130% so it would be the size my mom wanted. I did make a mockup so I could figure out the construction which helped a lot. I used denim for the bag straps and ends of the zippers. My mom loves it and that's what matters.

This bag was for my SIL, and I used a pouch pattern also from Sotak and changed the attachment method. I did a backing with cloth covered canvas to hold up to rubbing against stuff, but in the future, I'll probably just do a thicker canvas in the back of the pouch. I also tablet wove this band, wider than the normal pattern. I learned how to do snaps, which was fun and now I have the supplies and can do a lot more! I'll probably make more for the show and sale. I left the band really long and tripled up the hardware so she could wear it as a cross body bag or as a waist bag. She said she liked it, so I'm happy enough. I told her I could change the strap type or if she wanted a zipper, I could add them.

Tablet woven band, little applesies from Fox Noses and Applesies. Just made it for fun.

Hat for my brother, it's squashy and knitted out of handspun. I also gave him a colorwork hat I made ages ago that's just been sitting around.

Whew, that was a lot.

I have, at various points in my life, sewn clothes, did flat pattern, spun wool, knit, did card weaving, used an inkle loom and became friendly with various floor looms, from 2 harnesses up to 16. Between illness, age and adhd I have only kept a few crafts in my repertoire. But all this experience means I very much enjoy your posts about your crafting goals. I am always rooting for your success!
