well that was a busy 24 hours or so

I haven't actually posted since friday during work, which is unusual for me right now

Friday night we drove into the city to get mexican food at a place we hadn't been to before. It was decent but not worth the drive on a friday night. Not really better than the stuff we get for delivery lmao.I got chili pork tamales which sounded like a great idea except instead of doing flat tamales, they did round ones, like a meatball. Unfortunately to get that shape, you have to make the masa really thick and it is a very unplesant texture when it's that thick. stodgy is a good word.

cut because this got very long and rambly

saturday I got up, took mara to the dog park. then hit up the co op and farmers market. fun fact, the yogurt lady knows who I am despite my enormous inconnsistancy in going to the market because jade asked me to get her vanilla yogurt. the lady looked at me and said "hey, you're branching out!" lmao. I don't think whole milk plain is all that popular of an option.

came home, let the dog on the balcony and made granola. I was going to do work but with the dog outside, I can't go in my bedroom on the other side of the apartment in case she wants to come in. she won't come inside if jade opens the door. so granola: hazelnuts run in the food processor in batches to get different textures. I bought about a pound at the co op and didn't actually contemplate how much that was until I dumped it out of the food processor and realized I needed a second bowl. then I added oats and chocolate chips and then oil and honey and salt. I did oversalt some of the granola but the oven mellowed it or something. I also ran out of honey so I had to break out the maple syrup that my parents made. I didn't burn it this time either. it's really tasty although I can definitely go harder on the hazelnut.

let the dog inside. got sidejob work done.

went to bake something and was contemplating the giant thing of strawberries I'd pulled out of the freezer and put in the fridge to start defrosting. it was solid still. so I made chocolate chocolate chip cookies instead. froze some of the batter, baked the rest. they are still sitting out on the counter.

I cut my hair too, since it's getting warmer. I chopped it all off basically. it's nice and short

then I walked the dog, a short walk.

then I went ice skating. I originally was only going to go for an hour or so but ended up staying the whole two hours. I worked on some of the stuff I've been learning. I can now skate backwards with some amount of actual control. I probably look very shaky with it but I can vaguely steer and speed up with c cuts. I did work on my swizzles and stops in the middle of the rink towards the end of skate. I had to stop for a bit because teenagers were just skating across the rink and getting in my way. there was only like five of them, one of me and the rink was pretty big and not many people were there. there was no reason they should keep getting in my way. there's a whole rink! how did they keep ending up within five feet of me!

but whatever. I was going back and forth very slowly. I also practiced stopping backwards which is extremely hard. I did do the squats forward along the outside which by the end I could completely hug my legs with my butt down which was fun. in the last 15 minutes, there was only ten or so people in the rink so I practiced my right crossovers going the wrong direction. I really wish they would change direction when they zamboni. it's really dumb that they don't. even if people are better in one direction, they aren't going to get any better by not going the other way.

If I'm not too sick, I'm going to try ice skating at that one quiet rink again tomorrow

drove home listening to the markham montreal game, which markham won 4 to 3, although the score was 4 to 1 for a while. so that series is going to game three today. then partway through that game, the nwhl boston at buffalo started, which buffalo won 4 to 0 but it was so fucking close on both ends that it didn't feel like a 4 to 0 game for most of it. katie burt was so good, I don't know how she made some of those saves. it was incredible

then partway through that game, the toronto at calgary game started (8:45 ). toronto had won yesterdays so calgary needed to win this to stay in the running. they didn't but no one scored until the third period. and holy shit was torontos goalie on fire. she had 39 saves, which is a lot for pro hockey. at the end of the day, calgary won 3 to I think 0. so that's going to the third game in the series.

I went to bed at 11 which is late for me.

then I woke up this morning, really confused about my alarm and the time and why it was so dark outside, why I was so cold and what the noise was and a sore throat.

turns out I had forgotten about daylight savings which I continue to say is The Worst and we need to get rid of it. I had also forgotten it was supposed to weather overnight and we had two inches of snow with tiny hail randomly which was the noise. it's supposed to turn to rain at some point and the plows only just started clearing it, which is kinda silly because they'll clear some of it and the rest will turn to ice.

it was pretty warm yesterday so all the snow was melting but the temperature dropped overnight and everything was ice under the snow this morning. very slippery, didn't not apprreciate. mara was full of energy, I was not. I wish I could have taken her to the dog park this morning but bad roads.

sore throat is annoying and I've got post nasal drip but nothing too terrible so far, mostly just tired. we'll see if it get worse. I'm not running out for cough drops because snow so I guess I'll just lay here.

today's plans are to do two things: make vindaloo, watch hockey games (three today, the two cwhl series going to the third game and one nwhl)

Boo, sore throat!

That was an impressively busy day.

I am amused that Mara doesn't consider Jade empowered to open the door.
