What a great OT3. I tend to stick to their tag when reading TFA fic because there's a lot of fics I definitely don't want to read (cough crylo ren cough)

But there's been some incredible and spectacular fics I've found and I might get them all together and do a rec list because that's one of my favorite things to do! I've done most of the reading on mobile and haven't been tracking what they were so I need to go back through the tag which would be SUCH a hardship.

yay star wars

So I've got this garden right?

Well, not really yet.

We moved into the house at the end of February. When we moved in, the garden and yard was a pretty big mess. There were so many leaves, all over the yard, weeds like crazy and the garden plot (a L shaped area that used to be a garden) had been neglected for long enough that there were literal trees growing in it.

I don't know if the pictures will come along when it cross posts to tumblr but there are before and current-ish pictures here

So I did a lot! And it's spring and we should be frost free! Which is exciting! A month or so ago, I got my early seeds started and now I've got six enormous cherry tomato plants along a who bunch of other things. The parsley got planted. Things are being transplanted and planted in two days.

But now I'm thinking about neeeeext year. Already. I want to get around for next year when I haven't even been through one season of gardening here in maryland, and I haven't had a garden since I was in high school. Especially since I haven't tried gardening and keeping something alive with my work schedule, whiiiich is so many. On that note, I won't be around as much since it's summer! I work a lot of hours! In fact I'm working tomorrow, saturday. So I'm doing probably 50 or 55 hours a week right now and its only going to increase.

So I guess this is a waiting game for me, about me. To see if I can plant and maintain a garden while working so much and such a physical job.

if I shower tonight, I get to sleep an extra fifteen minutes in the morning

if I shower in the morning, I can be lazy and go right to sleep as soon as I get to my room

the answer is fuck my future self I want to sleep now

I did more garden planning this morning and realized that I'm getting very close to planting time. So I laid out when I was going to plant things, one planting tomorrow (parsley), then a planting in a week or so, after the risk of frosts. That one will be transplanting my cherry tomatoes, which are 8 inches tall already like jfc calm down, thyme, oregano, potting the spearmint and rosemary, and direct planting the zucchini. The spearmint and rosemary are going to live in pots on the back porch for the summer, because spearmint and mints in general will take over a garden via rooting if not contained, and the rosemary has to come inside for the winter or it will die.

The second big planting will be the week after when I'm going to put in cucumber, sweet corn, basil and almost all of the flowers.

The final big planting, a week after that maybe first week of may is going to be transplanting the hot peppers, bell peppers and cumin. Direct planting the melons, cilantro and the pumpkin gourds. At some point after, I'll get the bulbs in the ground and the pie squash at some point since I don't want those to mature until at least August, probably September.

So I ran to the garden store, picked up pots for the mint and rosemary, t posts and netting for the plants that needs trellises and chickenwire so I can hopefully create little cages that the plants can live in for a little while. There's a lot of birds and squirrels in the back yard so I want to keep them away AND keep myself from hoeing over them when I'm weeding. I'll see how it goes.

They always say never count your chickens before they hatch but next year I want to do some kind of beans that I can dry, maybe potatoes or carrots???? idek. Mom is going to send my some raspberries at some point and I was at tractor supply today and they had all kinds of plants for sale including a fig tree!!! which actually grow around here natively!! which is cool!!!! so maybe a fig tree in the future, and also maybe some gooseberries or something along those lines.

Excitement! Gardening! I think it'll be fun!

Garden projects! Or Picking Up The Materials For The Garden Project Because It's Supposed To Rain/Snow On Saturday Like What The Heck April

The first thing is mulch, which I'm going to use in the front yard and two of the beds in the back. One of the beds will only be partially covered I think but who knows? I've never done much with mulch so I shall see.

I also need to pick up some kind of material for a trellis for my tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. There's so many cool mystery plants in the backyard right now.

Back again

I've been neglecting this journal since I wandered back to tumblr (after a lovely round of adding a ton of things to my blacklist). I think I might try journaling on here a bit more just to see what happens. I was writing a bunch last year which was cool and seemed to be the creative outlet but I'm going to see how it goes. And maybe I'll do some writing of fics on here too. idek it'll be an adventure again

today I went to safeway which is kinda like a wegmans for you northern folks and I found:

dark chocolate milk that came in a glass bottle

turkey hill extra dark chocolate ice cream (if u don't have turkey hill ice cream where you are, you are missing out friend)

and gluten free chocolate donuts

so I'm set and fucking thrilled at all this chocolate, which I deserve because I was at the barn all day (got home at 4) and then started working on the yard and actually got a bunch done! I'll take pictures tomorrow

We finally fully moved in! The old apartment is cleaned! We don't have Internet until tuesday! We now have a dishwasher! The couch is still in the middle of the living room facing the wrong direction but frankly right now we don't give a flying fuck.

I'd try and post photos but I have no clue how to make it work on mobile so you'll all just have to wait until tuesday.

I got up, went to the barn for chores. Because it was 20 (with windchill of gross) we put the horses in the indoor arena to run while we cleaned stalls and did water. I also had to haul water out to the drafts which is always super duper fun, especially when the caps freeze to the jugs and I can't get them off.

Then I came home and packed and packed and packed and here's a great photo of the stack of things that are going over to the house at some point, probably monday.

This is the kitchen, some of Jade's stuff and some of mine. We still need to clean the closet out, I need to pack my room and some things in the living room and we'll be good. We were gonna move it all over to the house this weekend but its gonna be monday that we do it because tomorrow is supposed to be 21 with wind chill values down to -5.

So. We're waiting until monday probably.

And then we went out for burgers!

why are my feets so cold seriously I've got two blankets on them and they're tucked up against my legs but they just dont' stay warm

I'll just blame the hotel right?
unicornduke: (Default)
the roads are stacked on top of each other when you get into atlantic city so the gps is very unhelpful especially with the fucking tunnel and the signage is not good so I ended up driving into the wrong hotel's parking garage. there was signs leading from there to my hotel so idek it's probably common

then the parking garage is pretty shitty and it doesn't have any signs pointing to what direction the hotel is

and it leads to the casino, even when you attempt to not go into the casino

finding the front desk was a nightmare and the desk guy seemed surprised when I asked how he was

and the very worst thing is that they charge for fricking wifi like that is some bullshit

I've got my work mifi but still. 13 bucks for 24 hours is some huge ass bullshit

The new job stuff can be very stressful and as part of the new job stuff, I'm traveling with partner company to trade shows/conferences. At the trade shows we raise awareness of products, get leads, attempt to sell, etc. And they are exhausting. I got to state college the night before. I was getting over a minor cold but the drive wasn't bad.

The first day of the show was a half day because it started at 12 noon but it ran until 7 so it was just late. Then we had a full day, 7 until 6:30 then dinner out and today which was 7 until 4.

Talking to people is exhausting and trying to smile and appear like I enjoy talking to people is exhausting and keeping up with rapid conversations is exhausting and I just got home from a four hour drive in the dark on half unfamiliar roads.

I am tired but I get to sleep in as much as I want and I'm so excited

of course, I have another one next week in atlantic city so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Finally a date set for moving.

The carpet people who are going to replace all the carpets will be in on the 23rd. I'm expecting to have 95% of my stuff moved over to the house by then.

I'm just so fucking excited about this move. An actual house where we can have pets. And we have our own drive way. with no neighbors that walk down the hallway and stairs loudly at all hours of the day.

The bedrooms are fucking huge, like larger than the apartment living room. There's plenty of windows and light in all the rooms.

There's some work to do in the yard and we've got some old furniture that needs some paint or refurnishing but projects are great.

I'll have a garden. And a yard. I'm so fucking excited like. This is super great.

I'm friends with someone on facebook that I was pretty close with in high school when I was really involved with horses and horse judging. At this point we're just facebook friends and I honestly wonder what the fuck is going on

her life is a literal soap opera

and she goes around making posts that boil down to "I'm awesome, you all suck, fight me", complaining about people and their attitudes and then complains about drama that she probably caused and acting like she didn't start the whole thing

I don't understand. Like why
unicornduke: (Default)
like snow at least 3-5 inches with like 6 more friday night like

I'm fucking PUMPED I'm so fucking excited ahahahaaha

The PA Horse World Expo is in the beginning of March. And its such an amazing event. I went to it once, years and years ago and had a blast. Now that I'm an adult and have free time (haha) I'm thinking about going. There's some really amazing lectures that I want to go to and also its just plain fun.

The other thing I want to do is start training to drive horses. Some day I want to get a team of draft horses and if I want to keep them in condition, I need to know how to harness and work them properly. I did some googling and there's a farm in vermont that does 4 day draft working workshops that I'm interested in doing. It is in October so that's even a reasonable time. I don't know if it will happen this year but maybe I'll aim for next year and see what happens.
unicornduke: (Default)
and it was great. I love scrubbing things and making them clean. I also like cleaning horse poop because its quiet and no one bothers you.

Its now much cleaner! There was another one that I scrubbed but it was getting dark and I needed to get the horses in by the time I finished that one. The indoor buckets got scrubbed on the one side of the barn and I'm going to scrub the rest tomorrow morning.

Good stuff
